KINGMAN - Janet Watson will serve a second term on the Kingman City Council. Watson was the sole contender in Tuesday's Primary Election to break the halfway mark, earning her seat outright.
The vote was dispersed among the remaining five candidates, with newcomers Allen Mossberg, Dick Anderson and Erin Cochran edging ahead of incumbent Councilman Ray Lyons. All four candidates will proceed to the General Election in May.
Write-in candidate Jason Marino came in last among the candidates and will not proceed to the May ballot.
Mayor John Salem, who ran unopposed and will resume his office for a second term, read the preliminary results before a small audience at the County Administration Building Tuesday evening.

"Confused By Sign"
I apologize if my sign confused you. It is placed there because many people drive down that road to get to the Eagles Lodge. It is there only to help get my name out, not to confuse anyone. If you indeed live in the county, you are not able to vote in the city elections. Sorry for the confusion.

I thought I could not vote since I live outside the City! Guess I was wrong since I saw a sign in a ward in the Butler area for Erin Cochran. The best thing in this article was that all had passed Lyons, hopefully his days on the council will be over! At that time Kingman can come out of the dark ages.

I’m not concerned enough to get involved with all this Roderick. However, one blatant statement by “Juana Dance” just keeps hitting a nerve. (I am also employed, young, and upwardly mobile) and a blatant statement made by “I VOTED” (I do have a job, and a steady income, and pay taxes, and pay for the roads you drive on).
While in this economic recession, those words are sharp blades piercing the hearts of those whom have been most affected. It is a prejudicial act to throw those words out as if your life or your standing means more than your neighbor because you still have a job. This act of disregard lies deep in the gully as does those demeaning words spoken in a past council meeting (YOU PEOPLE).
This is not a time to point fingers, designate whom is more powerful or less powerful, allow imprudent pride to squander, or to segregate any citizen in the town of Kingman. Unless WE ALL come together in unity, understand and learn compromise, and reach towards the better good of our community WE ALL will be doomed to the surroundings of a Ghost Town.

Try reading the last paragragh, third sentence of my response.
Thank you for proving my point about being enlightened and up to snuff on everything. (Your 2nd diatribe also does wonders for the argument against bringing in new businesses).
LOL.

once again, did you vote. if you did are you disapointed that you obviously lost. if you didnt, why are you complaining as for taxes, have you noticed we are in a recession. have you noticed people are not spending (taxes). have you noticed people are not traveling (taxes). have you noticed fewer cars (taxes). have you noticed the houses sitting around empty? have you noticed the brand new houses sitting around empty? did you notice all of the lay offs in kingman? (no money to spend). did you notice the large # of people in kingman who had their work hours reduced? (no discresiionary income, no play) have you noticed we dont need target? have you noticed jc penny costs alot less than target but is usually empty. The people who did care, did vote. apparently some cant handle that other dont agree with them

Those numbers are registered voters within city limits. You can view the stats on the Mohave County Voter Registration website at:

It is very sad indeed!

RE: I Voted
I understand that this is how the cookie crumbles, and that more of us with an opposing view should have voted... but it sounds like I hit a nerve.
Maybe you are one of the people I was talking about? I doubt that you could enlighten us as to what our local leaders up for re-election have done to broaden our tax base... because if you have been following the storyline (evidenced by the editorial by Mr. Bogard on Feb. 14th, and the countless letters to the editor since then) our lack of tax dollars to support anything is virtually nil. These are tax dollars that only come with businesses. Yet you are glad for the status quo? Isn't that the attitude the citizens of Dolan Springs have? I guess we should just wait until our only bank closes like theirs did.
While other cities aggressively pursue business, some of our politicians do not. They don't even enhance or expedite any openings for new business. Yet they sure do press for their pet projects such as tourism, development of downtown, etc.. (all of which will surely fail unless tax dollars are being brought in by businesses)(where will the funding come from?). Then they act surprised when good economic times roll around and we are once again left with nothing but the scraps. They throw up their arms and say: "I tried". But it will be too little too late.
I felt and still do, that our most pressing need is to bring business to Kingman. I don't consider putting the kibosh on every idea to do so, a good quality right now. And for your information I did vote. I am also employed, young, and upwardly mobile and want my children to be also. However I doubt that the percentage of my voting category was well represented. It would be interesting to find out.

To V Stokes:
You're correct that, as of 9 p.m. last night, the county tallied 4,337 total votes cast. However, since voters were able to choose up to three candidates, that means only 1,683 actual voters showed up to the polls. That's also why more than one candidate could have more than 50 percent of the vote. The county should have official results posted no later than this Friday. As of Wednesday morning, Allen Tempert said there were still about 110 absentee and provisional ballots left to count, though they're not likely to cause any major shifts in the final percentages.

Angie: Just curious...when you say "registered voters" in each precinct does that include those of us who live outside the city limits? We live in the Fountain Hills area and we cannot vote in city elections- although we would love to...so, the numbers may not be quite as bad as anticipated if we were included in that number.

this is sad,I vote as I would always,I am in my late 30's and would like to know, why are not the rest going out and voteing?the last election brought out 4,000 plus voters and 1,600 this time out of 16,000,this is crazy.Just shows people could care less about our city and or county or it's direction,Perhaps I could have run and had a negative outlook and since people seem to like nagativity and such I would perhaps win,no water left, running out of money, needing a moratorium on development we need to go backwards etc.

I VOTED
(Juana Dance Wow. I am shocked. I guess it just goes to show that the people who voted yesterday are the same people that always vote)
what, the people who normally vote arent supposed to or??? if you dont like the results then get out and vote. IF YOU DIDNT VOTE THEN PLEASE CONTINUE TO KEEP YOUR IDEAS AND COMPLAINTS TO YOURSELF. I do have a job, and a steady income, and pay taxes, and pay for the roads you drive on, and vote for the candidate i belive will best serve MY community, the way i would like it served. If you dont like that THEN GO AND OUT VOTE ME.

Angie..if those numbers are correct...and I have no reason to doubt them....that is simply pitiful...just pitiful!
It took me less than 5 min, from walking in the door to walking back out, to do the entire process. I just stopped in on my way to the PO and grocery store...
Once again...pitiful....
oh...Anyone know where the election results in simple form can be found?(Total votes per candidate, basically) I've been to the county site..but that's more confusing than illuminating... The way I'm reading it..it seems like there were possibly 4300 votes? Still less than 1/3 of registered voters.....
