KINGMAN - The county is seeking public input on the review of the County General Plan. The General Plan helps control growth in the county by designating areas for commercial and residential development and creating long-term development goals for the county.
The county will hold 6 p.m. public workshops on the review of the General Plan next week. The workshop for the Kingman area will be held Thursday at the County Administration Building, 700 W. Beale St.
The other workshops will be held on Wednesday at the Lake Havasu City Aquatic Center, 100 Park Ave.; on March 23 at the Beaver Dam Elementary School, 3436 E. Rio Virgin Road in the Arizona Strip area; and on March 24 at the Mohave Community College Bullhead City campus, 3400 Highway 95.
The county is required to review the General Plan every five years and readopt it every 10 years. The last time the plan was readopted was in 2005.
Since then, several changes in state and federal laws as well as significant growth in the county have occurred, said Development Services Director Nick Hont.
The main topics of the workshops include bringing the plan in compliance with new state and federal laws; reviewing goals; and developing a more business-friendly environment for the county.
The workshops will also review the natural resources, land use, housing, economic development, public infrastructure and public facilities sections of the General Plan.
The original General Plan was adopted in 1965. According to Arizona Revised Statutes, the plan can be amended once a year. Last year, the Board approved two amendments to the plan for two large concentrated solar plants.
EnviroSystems Management was hired by the county to conduct the meetings.
