Hell's Angel pleads guilty in Kingman for role in '09 fight

KINGMAN - A Hell's Angel member whose run from the law cost him his shot at probation was back in court Thursday to plead guilty to charges related to a 2009 fight at a Bullhead City bar.

George E. Walters, 54, was arrested about a month ago after skipping out on an agreement to testify against five Hell's Angels and two Desert Road Riders who were arrested on riot charges stemming from a fight at Lazy Harry's bar June 19, 2009. Authorities say the men went to the bar, a known Vagos hangout, with the intention of confronting members of the rival club.

Prosecutor Robert Moon said at the time, the Hell's Angels were working to establish a chapter in Mohave County, which started a turf war with the Vagos.

Moon called Walters a "charismatic and notorious" member of the Hell's Angels who earned the ire of fellow club members when he agreed to testify against the others in return for a guaranteed sentence of probation from the state. That deal was rescinded when Walters fled the area, possibly out of fear for his safety.

Two armed guards were stationed at the door to the courtroom when Walters pleaded guilty to charges of rioting and

participating in a criminal street gang syndicate. He is being held in maximum security custody at the jail.

Moon declined to give details of how Walters was located except to say that he was arrested out of state. As part of his new deal with prosecutors, Walters will receive anywhere from two to a little more than 8 ½ years in prison when sentenced by Judge Steven Conn next week. The deal does not include a provision for testifying against the others.

The seven other Hell's Angels and Desert Road Rider members who were charged still have their cases pending before the court. Moon said that while the 2009 fight may not meet most people's idea of a riot, he said the confrontation caused enough of a commotion that at least two bar patrons on the back patio considered jumping off of a balcony because of the level of violence.

I knew joby 20 years ago. He was a great guy. He worked hard and when it came to hoarses the man knew it. I lived on the same 1300 hundred acre dude ranch that my mom ran. I think he is a great guy and i plan to get back in touch with him.

I wanted you to know that Cal died yesterday. It doesn't sound like you're doing so well. Glad to see that you're trying to go back to the old life. Good luck to you and I hope you get this.

All of you Joby supporters:

Hopefully you can all get conjugal visits over the next few years with Joby, the Angel of your dreams, in prison.

@ "The Real Truth"
Thank you for putting out there the kind of man Joby really is... it's obvious that you know the man and not the reputation, unlike these other people that think they know so much because they read a book.. Joby has always been there for me throughout the years no matter what.. because that is the kind of man he is. I love him and he will always be a part of my family.

Take a good look at this guy kids....You don't want to follow in his footsteps and belong to a biker (or any) gang. Get a life, have goals and enough independence so that you don't need to run in a pack with other insecure grown men and try to intimidate people who are not members of your "club" with the always underlying threat of violence. Sure that "club" will make you feel important and powerful at times...The power of the pack and "brotherhood". The downside is the obligation put the "club" before all else and to follow orders and commit crimes when commanded to.
It all ends bad...Violence, Prison, Death... A high price to pay to belong to a gang that makes you feel important and feared.
Stand on your own, think for yourself and enjoy your short life as a free man.

@ "the truth"

I'd caution against giving Dobyns much credit for anything. Realistically speaking his undercover work was less than impressive. Maybe a little too much "red bull"? (Cough, cough). Let's face it, that whole case pretty much went down the crapper.

Let me say this, Joby is a great guy, period. Anyone who KNOWS him will let u know that. Sponsored by Sonny, hell yes, Sonny knows what Joby's about. The club let him down, but he is doing the right thing and ultimately that's what it's all about. It had to be stressful being in that situation- "brothers" yeah ok....Don't even get me started on the Dobyn's book.What did Joby do that was so awful?You're ATF....he knew he was untouchable.... the guys just thought he was some crazy, badass guy who would just do anything...why would'nt they want him? Joby was Joby. Loyal to the end. Have ya ever been in a bind? Asked him for help? He is all over it. Awesome with people and awesome with critters. Joby never did anybody wrong....unless they deserved it....sorry Johnny Law, thems the facts. The way I see it, Joby didn't want to bring anybody down, things just got crazy.... pushed to the brink....what would u do? Do u have the huevos to do it?Nobody's getting hurt except Joby, the way I see it. All good, yes? Stop being a hater. Back off guys, show some old school class. If we all did the right thing the world would be a much better place than it is now.Don't be the problem(we are too old to be so stupid)be the solution. Let Joby alone.

Not too smart Joby. You cut a deal to turn on your "brothers", then run from that deal only to be caught, and now have no deal and you're going to prison. It's about time you did some time.
For all of you squawking that this was just a bar fight...You're wrong. This is all about gang turf and which gang controls an area to operate out of for their own purpose....And that purpose is NOT about who controls the fluffy toy runs.
Read "No Angel" by Dobyns to learn more about this clown.
Hats off to our law enforcement for going after these guys.

George Walters is known in the Hells Angels world as JOBY. the most famous 1%ER biker and HA in the world Sonny Barger of the HA cave creek AZ charter was Jobys club sponsor when he was a HA prospect for the club. even old timer 1%er biker Sonny who is 71 years old cant pick a loyal honorable good 1%er biker for the club anymore. the Angels are hacks any more. they aint what they used to be. the good times of Angeldom are over and gone with the winds of time. they started going down hill in the mid 1990s. I saw this coming years ago. they are a t shirt selling joke motorcycle cult anymore

WHAT!!! This is crazy,,,,,but my BIG question is,,,,what happened to the guy for him to be put in this position? I thought this guy was a die hard member? Remember the book? I think this brotherhood thing is coming to an end, just like everything else these days, everyone is screwing everyone over for some type of personal gain. This doesn't seem like any difference. It's a shame, The Hell's Angels have such a cool legacy, it seems now like it's a bunch of women who can't get along with one another. Like I said, wonder why this guy wasn't "feelin the love"? Be better to your people. They'll be better to you. Take care of each other, don't punish each other. Seems like it would be really cool and really an honor to be HA( I know there are haters out there, but come on admit it), but you got to wonder.......there has got to be more going on here? I hope it all works out. The whole deal is a ridiculous. Riot? Come on...that's just silly...
states evidence against others? For what? Fighting strategy? What's going on here? Everybody play nice.

@Franky

That incident involved the discharge of a firearm?

I thought it was about fighting and jumping off of balconies and risking the wellbeing of civilians by a bunch of hillbillies over patches.

@A J

"How many times has then the riot charge been used before or sense this fight?"

Maybe never.......because maybe they never had one around here. But feel free to rattle off all the "bar fights" that large, and involving shootings that you have in your vast storehouse of personal knowledge. And learn to spell.

He's not looking scared because of the prison sentence. He knows he's a dead man now. He was going to turn states evidence against his fellow hell's angels?? Not a really great idea.

Of course there was also Mike Tankersley and Charlie Haas who to their credit testified against Charles Diaz and Gerald Lester in the murder of a five year old several years ago.
