Burned child leads to arrest; CPS called

GOLDEN VALLEY - A Golden Valley woman was arrested and charged with felony child abuse and aggravated assault on a minor Monday after allegedly burning her stepson as punishment for playing with a lighter.

Crystal Green, 33, was taken into custody without incident.

The 13-year-old boy, an attendee at the Kingman Police Junior Academy, arrived at Monday's session with an injury.

Green told the KPD officer at the academy that her stepson intentionally burnt himself on the upper left leg. She later told detectives with the Mohave County Sheriff's Office that the burn occurred when her stepson handed her the lighter and she accidentally dropped it on his leg.

The boy told law enforcement that Green caught him "messing around with a lighter" on Friday and became angry enough to burn him.

Detectives looked at the wound and summoned EMTS, who took the boy to Kingman Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and later released.

Green was taken into custody while at KRMC.

Child Protective Services was contacted.
