Golden Valley Firefighter Matt Gore and Capt. David Cunningham extinguish a trash bin fire that was spotted around 3 p.m. Friday behind the U.S. Post Office in the 5500 block of Highway 68 after firefighters noticed a large column of smoke rising into the air just west of Fire Station 11 on Mayer Road. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a large refuse container full of combustible materials. The container wasn't too close to any structures, although a donkey in a nearby corral wasn't happy about all the commotion from the hissing and popping of the debris on fire and the sirens from emergency vehicles, according to department officials. The cause of the fire was undetermined and the only damage was said to be to the paint on the trash receptacle.
