Power outage starts at 1 a.m.

A planned power outage that will last roughly three hours will occur starting at about 1 a.m. Monday, according to the Mohave Electric Cooperative.
The areas affected are Hualapai Mountain, Valle Vista, Hackberry, Truxton and Cedar Hills, according to the cooperative.
Workers with transmission provider Western Area Power Administration need to cut power to these areas in order to perform improvements to a transmission line, part of an overall effort to enhance infrastructure, said cooperative spokeswoman Lori Fonzi.
Specifically, WAPA is rebuilding the transmission line from Davis Dam to the Kingman area, a job that won't be complete until mid-April, according to Tom Longtin, operations and engineering manager for Mohave Electric.
Longtin said he didn't anticipate any further planned outages to occur while work continues, and he pointed out the cooperative rejected WAPA's request to cut power for eight or nine hours. "We fought tooth and nail" to avoid that lengthy of an outage, he said.
Members who need to prepare for the outage should do so before they go to bed Sunday evening, Fonzi said.
Mohave Electric acts in an advisory capacity to help minimize impacts on members during the improvement project, which is designed to improve reliability and reduce future outages, said Fonzi.
