KINGMAN - The Wells Fargo branch located inside the Bashas' supermarket will close for good at 3 p.m. today.
A company spokeswoman said the closure was based on the bank's "constant evaluation" of its network of stores, but she declined to delve into specifics.
Most of the seven employees will move to another branch in the area, according to Lori Brown, a communications consultant for Wells Fargo.
Two positions were eliminated.
"The decision to close this store location was made with great concern for the team members who are affected," said Brown in an email. "... Wells Fargo did have to make the difficult decision to eliminate two positions. However, we are committed to retaining our valued team members and are working (to find them) other opportunities within Wells Fargo."
Branch manager Suzy Conklin said she could not discuss the reason behind the closing, but she confirmed her position was eliminated and that most tellers would relocate to other Wells Fargo outlets.
The ATM will remain inside Bashas' and there are three other Wells Fargo branch locations in Kingman. The closest to Bashas' is inside Smith's Food and Drug at 3490 Stockton Hill Road. Another branch is at 3940 Stockton Hill Road and the third is located at 330 E. Beale Street.
All of them have ATM service.
According to Brown, customers have been notified of the decision. "Regardless of where or how our customers choose to bank," said Brown, "there will be no change in how their accounts are handled."
Brown said Wells Fargo does not anticipate additional closures in the Kingman area.
Wells Fargo is the fourth largest bank and 23rd largest company in the U.S., according to its website.
