KINGMAN - Local, state, federal and tribal law enforcement agencies conducted a special traffic detail near Dolan Springs on Monday that targeted aggressive moving violations.
Tour buses headed to or from the Grand Canyon West Skywalk were stopped and inspected as well.
"The objective of these type of details is to slow down the motorists on Diamond Bar and Pierce Ferry roads and at the same time inspect the vehicles transporting visitors to ensure they are safe and in compliance with all regulatory and safety standards," said Mohave County Sheriff Tom Sheahan in an email.
Joining the sheriff's office was the Hualapai Nation Police Department, officers with the federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and the Arizona departments of Public Safety and Transportation, according to Trish Carter, Mohave County Sheriff's spokeswoman.
"The detail resulted in more than 40 vehicle violations and six driver violations," said Mohave County Sheriff's Sgt. Don Bischoff, who supervised the detail.
Bischoff said five out of 35 large and small passenger buses that were inspected were taken out of service.
Four of them were able to make the necessary repairs and hit the road and one with brake violations had to be replaced with another bus.
In all, inspectors discovered 47 federal violations.
As for passenger cars, a majority of the stops were for speeding and passing in no passing zones, said Carter. One driver was clocked driving 84 mph in a 45 mph zone, said Carter.
