KINGMAN - The Mohave Area General Narcotics Enforcement Team took home the "Outstanding Task Force - Overall Effort" award in July when the Arizona High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area - HIDTA - held its annual awards ceremony.
Kingman Police Department
spokeswoman Jennifer Sochocki, MAGNET "was honored for its achievements during 2012 in interagency cooperation, seizures and arrests and innovative use of technology and investigative procedures."
MAGNET is one of 20 Arizona HIDTA initiatives, said Sochocki, with a mission to "facilitate cooperation among federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies to share information and implement, support and coordinate law enforcement activities to dismantle and disrupt drug trafficking and money laundering organizations operating in Arizona."
MAGNET is comprised of the Mohave County Attorney, who prosecutes MAGNET drug cases, the
Department of Public Safety
Mohave County Sheriff's Office
, and the Lake Havasu City, Bullhead City and Kingman police departments.
The KPD is the lead agency and a KDP lieutenant is its commander.
"MAGNET embodies what the HIDTA program is all about," said Elizabeth Kempshall, director of the Arizona HIDTA. MAGNET is a true team effort. They work together to make a difference."
According to Sochocki, MAGNET detectives and other personnel work to reduce the impact drug activity has on the community as they continue to target major traffickers, along with distribution and money laundering organizations. People who make or otherwise produce illicit drugs also are targeted.
