KINGMAN - The controversy surrounding the Mohave County Library director position may finally be settled. The Board of Supervisors will consider hiring a new library director at its meeting on Monday.
The Board of Supervisors fired Mohave County's previous library director, Danielle Krol, in March because she allegedly "alienated employees and hasn't fostered a positive environment."
Krol said she believed some of the library employees felt threatened by her attempts to change how the library district serves the community. She wanted a more hands-on approach with the public.
If approved, Mohave County's new library director, Kathryn Pennell, will be moving from North Las Vegas to Kingman.
According to information provided to the Board of Supervisors, Pennell served as the director of the North Las Vegas library system from 2007 to 2013. She has worked for the North Las Vegas library as an interim director, assistant director and library services manager since 1997.
North Las Vegas covers about 100 square miles and has a population of around 228,000.
According to Pennell's résumé, while working for the North Las Vegas Library system she oversaw the construction of two new libraries, the remodeling of an existing library and the opening of storefront library.
She has a master's degree in library and information science from San Jose State University in California, a bachelor's degree in sociology from
Arizona State University
and a Nevada library certification from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
The Board meets at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Mohave County Administration Building, 700 W. Beale St.
