Walk boosts Kingman Samaritans
Kendall Frischman, a cancer survivor, was at the Kingman Cancer Care Unit’s “Walk a Mile in Their Shoes” event last October with her grandmother, Linda Low. This year’s benefit for the volunteer unit takes place Oct. 5.

KINGMAN - People who want to help fight the battle against cancer can put their best foot forward Oct. 5 at the annual Walk A Mile in Their Shoes fundraiser for the Kingman Cancer Care Unit.
Sponsored by Mayor Janet Watson and Councilwoman Erin Cochran, every dime raised at Walk A Mile in Their Shoes goes to the unit, which is comprised of volunteers. Most of them have had personal experience with cancer and strive to comfort others who suffer with it in some fashion.
For 33 years, the unit has helped people in the greater Kingman area in their fight.
The money the walk raises will help provide financial aid, in addition to moral support, for the patient and the patient's family.
The group also provides transportation to doctor appointments and treatments. The money is used to help patients who have to travel for treatment and they provide health equipment such as wheelchairs and personal items such as wigs.
Watson said the walk is organized differently this year.
All registrations for walkers take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 2 at Centennial Park during the Walk Away From Drugs event.
There are three types of registration fees, beginning at $20. The fee includes a T-shirt.
For $30 the walker gets a T-shirt and brunch from Redneck's Southern Pit BBQ at the walk's finish line.
Those who fund raise before the walk and who collect at least $100 from sponsors get a fee waiver, plus a T-shirt and brunch.
The downtown Kingman walk begins at 10 a.m. at the historic Bonelli House, 430 E. Spring Street.
Cancer survivors, those who are fighting the disease and those who have lost loved ones will talk about their experiences before the walk begins.
The walk itself travels through downtown and a map handout includes historical information about the buildings and other landmarks along the route.
A raffle will be held at Redneck's.
