Compressed gas business seeks zoning permission

KINGMAN - A New Jersey company wants permission from the Mohave County Planning and Zoning Commission to locate an industrial compressed gas-filling station on the corner of Northern Avenue and Lomita Street in Kingman.
According to its website, Matheson Gas of Basking Ridge, N.J. supplies compressed gases and equipment to the medical, electronic and welding industries.
According to information provided to the commission, the company wants to install a gas distribution center with a store to supply equipment to businesses. It's asking for a zoning use permit because the area is currently zoned C-2 general commercial.
C-2 zoning is reserved for retail stores, cleaning businesses, drug stores, offices, auto repair places, bars and restaurants, liquor stores, kennels and veterinary clinics without dog runs and wireless communication towers that are no taller than 50 feet.
According to the county's zoning ordinances, businesses that store bulk flammable gases and liquids for sale are normally only allowed in areas zoned for heavy manufacturing. However, Praxair, another major compressed gas supplier, has a storefront on Northern Avenue that supplies gas and equipment to businesses for welding and cutting jobs.
County staff is recommending approval of the permit.
The commission will consider the request at 10 a.m. today at the County Administration Building, 700 Beale Street.

A three-year extension of time on the commercial zoning for the Silverado master-planned community east of Kingman on both sides of U.S. 93 between Hidden Valley and Hackberry roads.
Two zoning use permits for propane tanks and dispensing areas - one in Meadview and one at the Love's truck stop at the intersection of Highway 95 and Interstate 40 near Golden Shores.
A zoning request to change residential lots from one acre to five acres for a subdivision to be called Winchester Canyon. The subdivision will be located west of Cavalry Ranch Road and north of Fort Beale Drive.
A zoning request for a developmental disability training center for SOLO America on the corner of College Circle and College Drive in Kingman.
