Golden Valley man accused of killing roommate

Louie Manuel Torres

He said shots were intended as a warning

GOLDEN VALLEY - One man is dead and his roommate is in jail following a shooting Monday evening in Golden Valley.

Louie Manuel Torres, 61, was taken into custody and charged with manslaughter and other felonies after he reportedly told deputies he accidentally shot his roommate in the neck while firing warning shots.

Jeffrey Todd Allen, 44, was declared dead where he lay in the driveway.

Deputies responded to a weapons offense call in the 2000 block of S. Cheri Lane at about 6:48 p.m. A neighbor told deputies that shots were fired at the Torres home.

At the same time, they observed Torres walking in the street with a firearm stuck in his waistband. They conducted a high-risk stop and took Torres into custody.

The weapon deputies believe was used in the shooting is a .44-caliber magnum revolver.

According to Mohave County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Trish Carter, investigators determined the two men were roommates and they got into an argument that turned physical.

Allen left the residence, according to Carter, and was shot as he walked up the driveway upon his return. Torres reportedly told deputies he fired three warning shots to scare Allen, but one of the rounds struck the victim in the neck.

In addition to facing a charge of manslaughter-reckless, Torres also was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
