KINGMAN - Kingman Regional Medical Center is expanding its Acute Rehabilitation service, which is located on the second floor of the former Hualapai Mountain Medical Center that KRMC purchased in August 2011.
KRMC moved its Acute Rehabilitation service to the KRMC Hualapai Mountain Campus (HMC) in June 2013.
The Arizona Department of Health Services recently approved KRMC's request to increase the licensed beds from 12 to 18. Shawn Butler, the director of KRMC Therapy Services, said the increased capacity will better meet the community's need for inpatient rehabilitation services.
The acute rehabilitation program helps people impaired by an accident, stroke, or other disabling condition develop new skills and re-learn previous ones to improve their quality of life. It involves specialized physical, occupational, and speech therapists who team with the patient's physician and other specialists to provide the best possible outcomes for the patient.
Butler said the service is equipped with the latest rehabilitation technologies and facilities for teaching patients techniques that can help them make full use of their abilities. Now with 18 private patient rooms, the service also includes a specially equipped therapy gym, kitchen, dining room and patient lounge.
It also features a fully-furnished "transitional apartment" where patients learn and practice self-help skills before returning home.
Patients can be admitted to KRMC's Acute Rehabilitation service with a physician's referral. For more information, call (928) 692-4688.
