Linda Brown, 70, took flight around sunrise on Wednesday, Aug.6, 2014. Linda was born in Los Angeles, Calif., on March 21, 1944, to Stuart and Winifred (nee Smith) Brainerd. Linda married Bill Gumaer in 1964 in Alhambra, Calif. A few years later, they followed Bill's parents to Kingman, where they had retired.
Linda was a resident of Kingman for 45 years. She worked at Safeway, where she met many wonderful Kingmanites who became lasting friends.
After her retirement from Safeway, Linda worked part time at The Roadrunner Cafe. The customers loved her and so many of them became lasting friends as well.
Linda loved her pets (she had many throughout her life from a burro, a skunk, and many dogs, cats and tropical birds.) She loved her home, her yard, traveling to the ocean, but most of all, she loved having fun with her friends. She is already missed by all of us who loved her.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, her older brother David, and her uncles, Bud and Vince of Florida.
Linda is survived by her dog Joca, birds Nicky and Jasper, and her sisterhood of amazing women: Sally, Carol, Linda C., Gail, Renee, Taresa, Cheri, Kathleen, Jill and Connie. And, of course, her dedicated boyfriends who helped her through her illness: Paul, Jock, Chi, George, Dave, and probably a few more that she didn't disclose to the sisterhood.
As per Linda's wishes, she has been cremated, and will be buried at sea in Monterey Bay, Calif. Soar on, beautiful Linda.
A celebration of Linda's life will be held at a later date.
The light of God surrounds you
The love of God enfolds you
The power of God protects you
The presence of God watches over you
Wherever you are, God is.
(Prayer by Dr. Winfield Edson, First Baptist Church of Long Beach, Calif., 1940s.)
