Meals program needs drivers for Turkey Day

Suzanne Adams-Ockrassa
Miner Staff Reporter

The Kingman Meals on Wheels program is looking for a few extra wheels to serve its biggest meal of the year - Thanksgiving.

The program delivers hot and cold meals to residents all over the Kingman, Golden Valley and Dolan Springs areas who are unable to cook or purchase their own meals.

At a recent meeting of the Kingman Senior Center Site Council Board, John Kirby and other board members realized that because the senior center would be closed Thanksgiving Day, the Meals on Wheels program wouldn't be able to make and deliver a hot meal on Thanksgiving Day.

That didn't sit well with Kirby. He contacted the Gardens Care Center Board and kitchen staff about the possibility of using the center's kitchen to prepare hot Thanksgiving meals.

The Gardens' staff jumped at the chance.

"The people at the Gardens are very excited about the idea," Kirby said. "However, I still need a small army of drivers to deliver the food. We need about 30 to 40 drivers."

The Gardens will have the meals ready for delivery around 10 or 11 a.m., Kirby said.

People interested in driving the meals to residents can call Kirby at (928) 718 - 4456.
