Police said a man discovered early Saturday morning in a store bathroom had items he stole the night before while performing community service.

Employees of the store in the 3300 block of Stockton Hill Road called police around 4:40 a.m. after noticing the man, identified as 22-year-old Michael Dale Cain, wandering around in a daze with a knife in his hand.

By the time officers arrived, Cain had moved to the bathroom, where he was found in a stall rummaging through two duffle bags, according to Capt. Rusty Cooper.

One of the duffle bags contained items police later determined to have been stolen from the Elks Lodge, where Cain had been performing community service the night before, Cooper said. The items included sound equipment and a community club banner, like the ones used by Rotary and Kiwanis clubs.

Cooper said the other duffle bag contained items stolen from a shed at a home in the 700 block of Foothills Drive. Cain is believed to have burglarized the shed while walking home from the Elks Lodge.

Police said Cain appeared to be under the influence of drugs when he was arrested. No charges were filed regarding the store incident, but he was booked into the Mohave County Jail on felony charges of burglary and theft. Court files indicate that he is currently on probation for a previous burglary arrest.

I think it's time we started using the full extent of the law to punish people who keep breaking the law and damaging our way of living.
