KINGMAN - An alleged sexual predator accused of meeting a 14-year-old victim on the social website Facebook was arrested Friday and charged with two felonies related to sex crimes involving a minor.
Mohave County Sheriff's detectives arrested Jason Manuel Souza, 26, a transient, and charged him with luring a minor for sex exploitation and furnishing obscene material to a minor.
The investigation began May 15 when a Kingman woman reported her suspicions that a sex offender might have targeted her daughter.
The victim reportedly told Sheriff's detectives she first met Souza on Facebook and that they met in person on May 8.
Souza reportedly sent photos of himself without any clothes on and "attempted to coax the victim to send naked pictures of herself," according to Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Trish Carter.
When contacted Friday, Souza was already in the custody of the Mohave County jail on felony forgery charges and a fugitive from justice warrant issued out of Redding, Calif. Attempts to learn why the warrant was issued were not immediately successful.
Souza reportedly denied knowing the victim and told detectives he has "been faithful to his current girlfriend of one year."
