KINGMAN - An Oatman man couldn't hit the backside of a mountain Sunday when he allegedly fired more than 50 shots into a nearby resident's block wall.

According to Mohave County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Trish Carter, George Henry Coons, 47, told deputies that he and a friend were shooting at the backside of a mountain.

That isn't what he told the reported victim, a 46-year-old man who lives in the 10 block of Americana. The man told deputies he was outside with his 16-year-old son and his wife and daughter were inside when he heard a rifle shot at about 2 p.m. The bullet hit bushes along his driveway, he said.

The man told deputies he heard more than 50 shots over the next several minutes and that the bullets were hitting his block wall. He located where the shots were coming from after searching the neighborhood on his all-terrain vehicle.

The victim told deputies that Coons was firing the weapon and that he apologized, telling the victim his intent was to hit the rooftop of a nearby home.

After noting "many" indentation marks on the block wall, deputies contacted Coons at his home on Pyramid Road.

They said Coons admitted to firing weapons, telling them he and a friend were shooting at a mountain. He was taken into custody without incident. The friend apparently was not present when deputies arrived.

Coons was charged with 10 felonies - four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, four counts of endangerment, discharging a firearm at a structure and disorderly conduct with a weapon.

Two rifles, a shotgun and a .38 special were seized.

Clearly he wasn't shooting at a mountain, because the bullets went over the mountain. Why would this fool be shooting at a roof of a house? Something here is not right. Sounds like felonies to me!

People like this make honest, responsible gun owners look bad! It gives "ammunition" (no pun intended) to anti-gun folks.

What a fool!

Hopefully he will be convicted of a felony because irresponsible people like him should not be able to own or use firearms. I’m glad no one was hurt.

People think just because they live in the west and have access to a gun that they are smart enough to use it. Throw the book at the fool!!
