KINGMAN - RN Pam Fjeld struggled to find her rhythm as she carved a turkey while assembling Thanksgiving meals Tuesday.

"I could probably start an IV a whole lot faster," she joked.

Fjeld works for New Hope Hospice, which earlier this week teamed up with volunteers from Kingman Christian Church on Gordon Avenue to assemble and deliver more than two dozen Thanksgiving meals for hospice patients and their caregivers.

Donations came from Safeway, Walmart, Cracker Barrel, Pioneer Title Agency, the Kingman Christian Church Ladies' Bible Study Group and the Salvation Army.

The patients all have terminal conditions and probably wouldn't have otherwise enjoyed a home-cooked meal, New Hope representative Bobbi Prestia said. The meals included turkey, ham, cranberry sauce, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with a marshmallow top, a casserole, rolls and pumpkin pie.

"I have gum in my mouth to keep from snacking," Prestia said as she stood in the kitchen, surrounded by the aromas of Thanksgiving.

The meals were assembled Tuesday and delivered in Kingman and Golden Valley later that night. Meals to patients in Bullhead City, Needles, Mohave Valley and Laughlin were cooked and delivered on Thanksgiving Day.

This is the third year New Hospice has provided the meals.

"Our job is to help people and this is just another extension of that," Fjeld said.

God bless those who helped organize, prepare meals, and donated food to the cause.
