The school board on Tuesday approved the resignation of the Kingman High teacher accused of misdemeanor assault for allegedly kissing one of his students.

Harry Schueren was suspended in late November pending concurrent investigations launched by the Kingman Unified School District and the Mohave County Sheriff's Office into potentially inappropriate relationships with students. The investigations started after two students - one male and one female - approached school officials to file complaints against him.

"All I can say is that we followed the advice of our lawyers," said KUSD Superintendent Roger Jacks.

Schueren was arrested by MCSO deputies on Dec. 19 and charged with misdemeanor assault for an incident that allegedly occurred more than two years ago in a class.

He pleaded not guilty in Kingman Justice Court on Dec. 20, but he is scheduled to appear in court to offer a change of plea at 3 p.m. next Tuesday.

The male student who originally came forward told detectives that he and Schueren were having a heated, face-to-face discussion when Schueren allegedly kissed him, said MCSO spokeswoman Trish Carter.

Schueren told detectives that his lips inadvertently brushed against the student's when someone called his name during the argument.

The female student had similar allegations and said she had a witness. The witness denied seeing what was alleged, and as a result Schueren was not charged.

The board also approved a settlement agreement with Schueren that starts the resignation on March 1. The district paid Schueren's salary while he was suspended, and it will continue to until the resignation takes effect. Other aspects of the settlement remain confidential. Schueren's fingerprint clearance is suspended and the Department of Education knows of the arrest, Jacks said.

Its funny that you all are going off about how this guy's career was ruined.. If he wasn't making out with his students behind closed doors, then he'd still be teaching.. Simple as that. Shame on YOU all, for calling a teenager a "vindictive" for simply coming forth with such an occurance.

@ step up
I'm sorry, I do know what i'm talking about, i was a student in his class and know those involved, you would have to be blind to not notice something between them. And calling the students who reported him childish spoiled brats who have some vendetta against schueren, do you have all the facts?
And how is the testimony of someone who was investigated for having an inappropriate relationship with him more believeable than 2 people saying that he did something to them.

@ not surprised student
There was no relationship.
Shame on you for believing everything you read and making comments about things you know NOTHING about. I don't know the entire story, but I know enough to let you know you are wrong. There was no relationship.

Really? Asking why report something that happened 2 years ago, obviously the male student came forward becuase he and the female student know each other and when she told him what had happened they decided to report it. And the witness was accused of having an innappropriate relationship with schueren. Of course she isn't going to say her boyfriend kissed another student.

@ desert dweller

YES.... you hit it right on the nose.... a childish spoiled brat that wasn't getting their way.

I don't know this teacher, but I have seen his work with the high school plays and musicals.
I wish him the best and I'm sorry Kingman has treated you so badly.

Article comment by: What in the is going on here?

Can someone tell me what the heck is going on here? Is it really that easy to ruin a person's career? Some former student decides to tell the cops that his teacher "kissed" him over 2 years ago. Then the cops just go and arrest the guy??? Does anyone feel safe in a society that operates like this?

I guess we'll just have to wonder what the "settlement agreement" contains. Hopefully it's enough to compensate someone for being totally railroaded.

Evidently, since there were no witnesses to the girl's allegations, that charge was dismissed. Thus we'd all have to assume that there were witnesses to the boy's allegations. Anyway, what's the "boy" doing bringing charges some 2 years after the alleged incident?

What a joke this whole thing is.

do you really think a school teacher is going to debauch himself right there in the classroom with other people around? Lightly caressing a teenager on the head to quell an emotional outburst is understandable. Maybe not advisable in the present cultural setting, but understandable.

@ desert dweller, I agree. No molester should go unpunished, but he has lost his career and name because of 2 complaints and no witness...something is wrong. Teenage kids can be very cold hearted and vindictive. Guess we will never know.

other aspects of the settlement remain confidencial. I'm sure they do because once again our local MCSO jumped the gun and arrested Mr Schueren prematurely without ample evidence. So what they are going to pay him to redeem his life after unfounded alegations will remain confidencial. Far too many cases have been prosecuted that should have been dismissed. They won't tell you how much it is costing all of us for this gross mismangement of our legal system. That will remain secret. who ever made the discission to prosecute should be fired.
