Mistrial push fails in Ketchner murder trial

KINGMAN - One of Darrell Ketchner's attorneys called for a mistrial Wednesday in the long-awaited murder trial after a witness introduced information that wasn't supposed to come forth until later in the case.

Ketchner is on trial for the July 4, 2009 murder of Ariel Allison and the attempted murder of Jennifer Allison, who was Ariel's mother and Ketchner's ex-girlfriend.

During testimony Wednesday, Denise Walsh, Allison's former next-door neighbor, mentioned three or four times the fact that Ketchner had been incarcerated.

Defense attorney John Napper objected and asked Judge Rick Williams for the mistrial, noting that both sides had agreed not to introduce Ketchner's previous stints behind bars until later in the trial. He argued that Walsh's statements tainted the jury.

County Attorney Megan McCoy retorted that since Walsh's references were so brief and the information would be introduced later, it wouldn't make a difference.

Williams agreed with McCoy, but ruled that the references to Ketchner's incarceration be stricken from the record. He instructed the jury, once it was reseated, to ignore that part of Walsh's testimony.

Why don't you post pictures of his victims. He murdered a beautiful young girl and tried to kill her mother. No one wants to keep looking at his ugly mug.

Yeah Kingman Daily Miner,

Why do you need to have Ketchner the murderer's mug shot posted THREE times on the local news web page? Since you guys can’t seem to get enough of him, you should create a special Ketchner trial webpage with daily updates and make his mug shot photo even bigger! Sickening!

My gosh. everyone already know this person and his long history with the judicial system. Is he trying to play the same game as the "person" in Phoenix or just prolong it for the publicity?

Yeah lets ask for a mistrial because the fact that he was incarcerated before may jade the jury, unlike his murdering of a girl and attempted murder of her mother. That makes a lot of sense. I am surprised they allow jurors to even look at defendants now days because that may jade the jury as well.

Would you please remove Darryl's photo from the inet version of the Miner? It ruins my day every time I open it to see his face staring out. Enough is enough. His kids don't need this. Nobody does.
