KINGMAN - The grass doesn't have a chance Saturday at the Mohave County Fairgrounds during the Kingman Regional Medical Center Smash & Dash lawnmower races.
"I think this is the first lawnmower race held in Kingman. We wanted to create a whole night of fun at a reasonable price," said Brooke Hinman of A1 Action.
"We had a lot of requests for lawnmower races at the last scramble car race. People are really excited about it. I had one guy bring his lawnmower by so I could see it. He's even got sponsors."
The gates to the event open at 3 p.m. and the races start at 4 p.m. Tickets to watch the fun are $8 for adults, $5 for kids ages 5 to 11 and $2 for parking. Food and beer vendors will also be available.
The event includes scramble car racing. It costs $25 to enter either a lawnmower or a scramble car and the pits open at 2 p.m. The rules to each race are posted under the driver information tab at www.a1actionaz.com.
All drivers must be 18 years old or have written permission from a parent and must wear a helmet.
Hinman said this is one of five events A1 Action has planned at the fairgrounds this year. The next event in May will feature a full-on demolition derby.
