Death penalty for Ketchner
Jury deliberated for four hours

KINGMAN - A Mohave County jury on Monday condemned convicted killer Darrell Ketchner to death.

Jurors deliberated roughly four hours before returning their verdict.

The same jury two weeks ago spent 45 minutes deliberating whether Ketchner was guilty of first-degree murder in the July 4, 2009 fatal stabbing of 18-year-old Ariel Allison, the shooting and stabbing of Ariel's mother, Jennifer Allison, and two additional counts of aggravated assault.

Ketchner appeared nervous before the verdict was read in Superior Court Judge Rick Williams' courtroom. At one point he turned and smiled at one of his daughters.

He sat emotionless when the verdict was announced before he was quickly removed from the courtroom.

Look in Tuesday's Daily Miner for more on this story.

Williams scheduled a formal sentencing hearing for April 29.

It took 4 years to convict this man? How hard is that on both families?

This will drag on for a couple of decades and likely sentence be commuted to life in prison.

This is not justice in my book.

I didn't know the Allison family, but send prayers that they are coming through this terrible tragedy. It's a horrible thing to have to deal with. It's unimaginable to even understand how this could happen.

My heart also goes out to the Ketchner family that they have to face the knowledge of what Darrel has done. It is all so sad. The Darrel I knew in school was the protector, the thoughtful guy who took care of friends and family.

My prayers to all who have been hurt by this awful event.

I just wish we knew a way to stop the next act of evil violence.

Guy deserves what he get I think, would just rather the next thing KD miner obsesses about is a tragedy averted and not a tragedy unfolded.

There is no question that this was the right verdict was decided by the jury. I wish it hadn't taken nearly 4 years and that the families (both sides) didn't have to go through this and rehash all of the details, that must have been more than aweful. Even though it was the right choice, my heart continues to go out to both families, the Allisons and the Ketchners. He has caused so much pain for all of them. None of them deserved what he has brought on to them.
