Arson tips now worth $11,000

Correction: Because of inaccurate information provided to the Daily Miner, the organizations offering some of the reward money were not credited in the original version of this story. The Kingman Fire Department is not offering a reward, and no taxpayer dollars are being used.

KINGMAN - Mohave Silent Witness has added $1,000 in reward money for information that leads to the arrest of a roadside arsonist or arsonists responsible for 80 fires in the Kingman area since January.

The Arizona Advisory Committee on Arson Prevention and the Arizona chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators previously offered a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

The arsonist has set 64 fires within the city limits and 17 in the surrounding area, including a few that this past weekend.

Dry summer heat has turned bountiful desert fuels to kindling and officials fear the arsonist could set a fire that erupts into a conflagration.

Reports can be made:

• To police detectives by calling (928) 753-2191.

• To Mohave Silent Witness (anonymously) at (928) 753-1234.

I wonder.... If I were to catch an arsonist...Do you think the authorities would mind if I smacked his punk ass up a bit before I handed him over?
Just a thought.
