KINGMAN - Judge Steven Conn has set a trial date for a man accused of stabbing three people multiple times at a Kingman home in the summer of 2012 - but there's no guarantee Philip Matwyuk will face a jury of his peers on Feb. 4.

Before a trial can be held, a third psychiatrist must examine the 31-year-old's mental competence. Two previous examinations yielded mixed results, with one doctor finding Matwyuk competent and another who deemed he is incompetent to stand trial, meaning Matwyuk would not understand court proceedings and would be unable to assist his attorneys in defending him.

The chilling incident began shortly after 7 a.m. June 2, 2012, when Matwyuk allegedly entered the home of an ex-girlfriend in the 700 block of Gold Street.

A 26-year-old man at the residence confronted Matwyuk, who reportedly stabbed the man nine times and inflicted injuries that were deemed critical.

Matwyuk allegedly stabbed the former girlfriend and her now 23-year-old sister multiple times when they intervened. All three survived.

A babysitter who was in the home fled with two small children after waking to find the sisters covered in blood and a bloody man crawling from a bedroom.

According to the Kingman Police Department, Matwyuk admitted his involvement after he arranged to surrender at a Kingman truck stop later on that day.

Shortly after the incident, Matwyuk's father, Frank Matwyuk, told the Miner the relationship with the ex-girlfriend ended not long after they bought a home together.

The woman's family said the defendant repeatedly harassed her for weeks before he allegedly attacked them.

If found competent, Matwyuk faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder by domestic violence, first-degree burglary, six counts of aggravated assault and two counts of aggravated assault by domestic violence.

Tattooed Nurse, amen to that, tattoo's do not define a person. "R" why are you concerned about his facebook account? He is still a very good man had a momentary lack of good judgement that he has to live with. so unless you are on a jury DONT judge.

Interestingly, in spite of all his charges, he's still been capable of updating his Facebook status from jail!? Two from June 16th 2012 and one from July 2012. Nice.

Desert Dweller, What does having a tattoo and facial hair have to do with his violent behavior? I chose to get multiple tattoos, I chose to have vibrant colored hair and I chose to get an education and start my career as a Registered Nurse. Please don't be judgemental about apperances.
