KINGMAN - Christine Jones wants to be the next governor of Arizona because the state needs the kind of leadership that would ensure its "next 100 years is as magnificent" as was its first century.

Jones, a Republican, is an attorney, a CPA and most notably, a founding executive vice president of GoDaddy.com, one of the most popular Internet web hosting services and the largest domain registrar in the world.

Jones sold her interest in 2011 in a $2.25 billion deal with three private equity firms.

As the web giant's legal counsel in the early 2000s, Jones said the Internet was equivalent to the Wild West.

"There was no law on the Internet," she said Monday in a speech to the Mohave County Republican Men's Club. She said bogus pharmacies sold millions of pills online and child pornography sites were rampant. The number of scammers, identity thieves and other cyber criminals was high and so was the toll on victims, she said.

Jones said she was able to advocate for change and played a role in setting web policy. She has testified before Congress and helped pass legislation President George W. Bush signed into law in 2008 that was designed to protect children on the Internet.

"There's a lot of good on the Internet, but there's also a lot of not nice things," she said.

After selling her stake in GoDaddy, Jones said her temporary retirement came to an end when she chose to run for the top office in Arizona.

"I decided, at some point, that we needed someone in (office) with no regard for the length of time in office or with an eye on higher office," she said.

If she fails, she said, the state's residents will get "stuck with another career politician in there who tells you one thing when they have no intention of following through."

She said if residents do elect such a person, voters "get what we deserve."

She said she supports a strong defense, limited government and personal responsibility, but she has virtually no background in political office.

Critics point out she has a drunken driving conviction stemming from an incident in 2004 and there are those in the state GOP who believe Jones is not truly a Republican - and if she is, she's not a particularly conservative one.

Jones, however, is no fan of higher taxes. She alluded to her GoDaddy deal when she said she pays a large amount of money in taxes and doesn't want to see that liability increase.

Jones worked for a Phoenix law firm focusing on commercial litigation prior to co-founding GoDaddy.

Jones serves on her Phoenix church's board of directors and sings on its praise team.

She is married to Gary Jones, a retired Air Force officer who runs the Air Force Junior Officer Training Corps at a local high school.

I can certainly understand people being skeptical of Christine Jones as she seems to have come out of nowhere, but I think we all know what happens when we continue to re-elect career politicians. What scares me more than anything is when people speak so highly of power hungry opportunists like Hillary Clinton or incompetent liars like Janet Napolitano. It's sad that you can't see past the bill of goods you've been sold for so long.

Republican, Democrat, Independent, blah, blah, blah. Now a days, it really doesn't matter what party they belong to. The majority of people running for office are going lie to get votes. We have seen this time and time again. It's getting worse not better.

To Capt. Nice:
If you can call a former first lady for 8 years, a US Senator for 8 years, and a Secretary of State for 4 years, a loser I guess all your republican women are what???
Most, maybe all republican women that I know of don't hold a candle to Hillary Clinton. Like her or not, she went a lot farther than a lot of other politicians, male or female.

my concern is this...is she going at this as an independent candidate? or as a millionaire seeking just power and more money? or looking for prestige? is she trying to break in to the good old boys club.? or just by chance trying to really do something worthwhile. i'm not criticizing...just questioning. k? janice

Ref: Capt Nice:
Sara Palin didn't get destroyed by anyone but herself, much less "lefties."

Remember Sharron Angle(Nevada), Christine O'Donnell(Delaware), Meg Whitman(California), and a few other strong, independent, republican women???

And, you're right! I am a little scared of crazy candidates like these getting into power. If the republicans could just figure out a way to win with these women once in a while! Oh well....

Another billionaire looking out for her own interests. Stick the tax burden on the poor and middle class, and hope the ignorants vote en masse. No wonder this state is in such a mess. Bring back Napolitano!

I think the big "qualification for her running for Governor is her Monetary means that will back her. Don't care if republican-won't vote for her if she runs.

As for republicans doing catch up due changes in country and one "may have gay friends and not know it". That's not good cause for any republican to abandon their social conservatism!!

Duck Dynasty Phil Robertson in hot water with A&E for his stance on gays. In discussion on Fox (Gretchen Carlson I believe), the Jewish gay guy Bernard accused Phil Robertson of hiding "behind the veil of religion" in his anti-gay belief.
These people are skewed in their own mind, they want Christians to only dwell on love, compassion, tolerance and acceptance. Christians to be true to God and themselves have to also acknowledge what is an abomination and sin in the word of God.
Jesus is the Veil.

And the jealous lefties come crawling out from under their rocks because a rich women Republican would like to be Governor.
One person even said to ask a gay person what they think about Republicans and that is absurd as all the gays I know are Republicans.
What is it that scares lefties so much about Women Republicans? After they destroyed Sarah Palin, I guess they felt pretty proud of themselves and kept right on after women Republicans..
Evidently it makes these people feel important to pick on a women.
What in the world makes these people think they can judge anyone, after they chose the biggest loser of all times, Obama?
These same people will stand in line to vote for another loser, Hilary Clinton...who can figure?

What is her stance on our 2nd Amendment ? No one should get past us without answering questions like these. We cant afford another Janet N as Governor or we will end up another California sooner than later. As for all that love it their if its so much better feel free to go back we don’t want to change Arizona !!!!

Well, I've seen how GoDaddy has racheted up their fees and charges over the years and how customer service has dwindled to nearly nothing.

Is this what we can expect in the Governor's mansion?

Wonder how her DUI conviction will affect her chances? I guess if Horne's successful run for Attorney general and his unethical past and being banned from stock market is any guide she just might win!

One thing that Ms. Jones and I agree on is that voters get what they deserve when they vote for a career politician. I think Buster is running for his 5th term for example. But is she running to do something for the state and people of Arizona or simply to reduce her tax burden. What a surprise that she supports a strong military, limited govt. and personal responsibility. Wow now that's a risky stance to take but who doesn't after the last two presidents. Personal responsibility now means to most politicians that they stand up with their wife standing next to them and admit what they already got caught for. But she probably isn't conservative enough for the local Republican party anyway so no worry she won't be winning any election any time soon. I'm sorry but I think the Republicans need a change we can believe in not just more of the same, but that's only if they want to continue to win elections in this state. America is changing without them and it's time to catch up. Just ask one of your gay friends. I'm sure you have some even if your not aware of it.
