KINGMAN - Seven agencies responded to a 20-acre brushfire along Interstate 40 in Kingman late Wednesday afternoon.
The Kingman Fire Department was the first to arrive at the blaze, which moved fast and burned around the rock bluffs and canyons along the westbound lanes, according to Kingman Fire Department Battalion Chief Bill Johnston.
The fire was quickly defined as "complex" with the potential to threaten homes and extra help was called, said Johnston.
Personnel from the fire departments of Northern Arizona Consolidated, Pinion Pine, the Bureau of Land Management and Arizona Department of Transportation assisted Kingman fire while the Kingman Police Department and Arizona Department of Public Safety controlled traffic, which was backed up for miles with only one lane open.
No injuries were reported and the fire, while still under investigation, is not believed to be part of a string of arson fires that have occurred alongside Kingman roadsides since last year.
