KINGMAN - The Mohave County Grand Jury indicted Matthew Gibson on a count of second-degree murder last week, nearly 17 years after the former Bullhead City resident allegedly killed a Kingman woman.

A apparently guilt-racked Gibson, 54, drove from North Carolina and turned himself in to Winslow police on June 5. He has since been booked into the Mohave County jail.

The murder of Barbara Leone Brown, 38, in the summer of 1997 went unsolved after her battered body was found in bushes along the Colorado River near Rotary Park.

While Gibson's memory was shaky - he pegged the killing as taking place sometime between 1994 and 1997 - Bullhead City police said he offered information that coincided with Brown's murder.

Commissioner Kenneth Gregory will arraign Gibson on a count of second-degree murder at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Mohave County jail.
