KINGMAN - An accident that resulted in the death of 7-year-old girl closed one northbound lane of U.S. 93 between Kingman and the Hoover Dam for six hours Wednesday morning.

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the girl's family stopped at a vehicle pullout about seven miles south of the dam around 10:30 a.m. The girl opened the door of the car, dashed across the highway and was struck by a silver SUV.

According to DPS, the driver of the SUV did not stop. The vehicle and its driver were later found at the Lake Mead Recreation Area on the Nevada side of the dam.

The girl was pronounced dead at the scene. DPS officers were questioning the driver Wednesday afternoon.

The Arizona Department of Transportation closed one northbound lane of U.S. 93 to allow officers to investigate the incident. Some northbound motorists were routed onto Highway 68 in Golden Valley and Highway 95 in Bullhead City in order to reduce traffic at the site.
