U.S. House of Representatives candidate Ron Gould is waiting until he receives official word from the Federal Elections Commission before commenting on a campaign finance complaint that was filed against him.

An official from the FEC confirmed that the office has received a copy of the letter, but declined to discuss the case. The details of such complaints are kept confidential by FEC until the case is resolved.

A member of Paul Gosar's campaign emailed the Miner a copy of the complaint. Barrett Marson, a spokesman for Gosar's campaign, said no one attached to the campaign filed the complaint.

Gosar and Rick Murphy are running against Gould for the Republican nomination for the House seat. The Democrats running for the seat include Johnnie Robinson and Mikel Weisser.

In the complaint, former La Paz County Assessor George Nault asks for the FEC to investigate Gould, his treasurer and his campaign committee for allegedly violating several federal campaign finance reporting rules.

He alleges that Gould used more than $16,000 that was left over from his last state senate campaign to pay for consulting services from Bluepoint Consulting LLC.

Federal campaign finance laws prohibit federal candidates from using money in a federal election that was raised for a previous local or state campaign.

According to Nault, Gould also did not report the expenditure on his federal campaign finance report.

Nault also alleges that Gould failed to properly fill out campaign finance forms for more than 150 bundled campaign contributions worth more than $50,000 from Club for Growth and failed to confirm five other contributions from Club for Growth donors.

According to Nault, the Arizona Clean Elections Commission investigated Gould in 2004 for failing to report more than $12,000 in campaign expenditures in a timely manner. According to court records, Gould settled the claim in June 2005.

Contact information for Nault was not available.

Gould said he has not seen the complaint and declined to comment until he has received official word from the FEC.

He also stated he and Nault, a Republican, have disagreed in the past on Nault's property tax exemption requirements for churches. According to Gould, Nault refused to exempt La Paz County churches from property tax payments unless they could prove they were registered as a non-profit with the Internal Revenue Service. Gould claims the requirement is not necessary.

This kind of blatant arrogance is why Ron cannot connect with an average person. His response about churches was so far off the mark. A church SHOULD have to prove it is non profit to receive an exemption, just like every other non profit. Gould HAS seen the comlaint. It was sent to him by numerous people. Gosar pegged it last night on the radio debate.... Gould is, and has always been a liar.

Gould is a fraud and is an extremist if you don't agree with him he will simply vote no and never compromise... what can possibly be accomplished with this man? We need a moderate. Both the far right and left are nuts. Vote Murphy. A business man with negotiating abilities that understands small business.

Ahh, Ron Gould, another one of those California clowns that came here and decided he KNEW the best way to do things. And then it turns out he’s just another TeeHee that feels cheating is okay - as long as he’s doing the cheating.

Of course he’s chosen not to respond – he’s already been nailed once for campaign expense violations and here he goes again.

Remember back in 2010 when Gould – and the rest of the TeeHees – promised us if elected they would concentrate on JOBS, JOBS, JOBS! Of course Gould and the rest of the TeeHees lied and never spent a single moment on jobs. But Gould did spend a lot of time on stupid birther loon nonsense bills, another stupid bill that would have allowed weapons to be carried on university and college campus and his greatest achievement? A bill that would have circumvented the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution and when questioned he was actually overjoyed at the prospect of spending millions of tax dollars (your tax dollars) to carry his massively ignorant bill to the Supreme Court in yet another losing battle for the state.

Ron Gould – bad for Arizona and bad for America!

Gould needs to step down. We have enough people hiding money or using it inappropriately. Nice that he knows so much about churches and tax exemptions. Not.
