Weisser loses recount

Suzanne Adams-Ockrassa
Miner Staff Reporter

It was close, but local educator Mikel Weisser will not be on November's ballot.

Weisser ran against Johnnie Robinson for the Democratic Party nomination for the U.S. House of Representatives in the Aug. 28 primary.

The Arizona Secretary of State's Office asked for a hand recount in the race in the district's seven counties after elections results showed Weisser losing by 19 votes. The counties included in the recount were Gila, La Paz, Maricopa, Mohave, Pinal, Yavapai and Yuma.

Although a few votes shifted in the hand count, the end result was the same: Weisser lost by 19 votes, 10,166 to 10,185.

"This number is a powerful lesson to me not only of the things I (did) wrong in my campaign, but also what we did right," Weisser said in an email to his supporters. "To come this close with my hand-made, fumble-prone, learn-as-I-go effort, tells me (Arizona) hungers for a progressive voice to stand up against the force of a GOP that is out of control and threatening the very American way of life.

"Also, the amazing and widespread outpourings of love and support I received show me that I need to look at this race as a beginning, not as an end, of my role as a voice for Western Arizona."

Robinson will run against three other candidates for the seat - Republican candidate Paul Gosar, Americans Elect candidate Richard Grayson and Libertarian Joe Pamelia.

“And also, you are lying about Jan Brewer (not a surprise, you're a liberal). She misspoke at a convention and her record clearly proves that she is NO friend of BO.”

So what you are saying is that 1) Brewer lied, or 2) She actually has no idea of what she is saying when she opens her ignorant moth. Got it. Thank you.

“Also represented in my party are Abraham Lincoln, Russell Kirk, Martin Luther King, Alan Keyes, Ronald Reagan, William F. Buckley, Michelle Malkin, Chuck Norris, and thousands more.”

Martin Luther King? Really? Ronald the Dim – started our trek down the road of massive debt with the stupid “trickle down” nonsense. . Michelle Malkin – that hate-filled weird chick? Now that’s a stretch. And Chuck Norris – honestly? A Hollywood type? I thought you guys hated any Hollywood types who involve themselves in politic?

Pround Kingman, yes, your father's Republican Party can certainly claim many outstanding Americans such as Lincoln, Eisenhower and even our own Goldwater. Unfortunately today's Republican Party would not even pay these leaders the time of day. It is time, past timet the true Republicans regain control of the party or form a New Republican Party.

Article comment by: Republicanism - Now That's a Threat on America

David, I beg to differ. The result of Republican leadership under GW was:
* bankrupt this country with its unpaid wars, ill-conceived tax policies, an unregulated financial industry, and a perscription drug program that will not allow competition to bring down drug prices,
* loss of America's good name around the world - our country is now known for invading countries for no reason, torture, secretly kidnapping and imprisoning people we "think" are against us, not allowing these detainees trials - isn't everyone entitled to a fair trial?
* Republcian party that was largely responsible for S&P lowering our credit rating (read the report is actually names the Republican Party).
* Americans insecure in thinking the federal government will protect them - 9/11, Katrina
* Americans no longer believing in our own financial system - who launched the bank bailouts while unemployememt hit 700,000 in 2008.

David, I know I will not convince you to reexamine your support of an outa control Republican Party but perhaps the Australian official who said, "the extreme right tea party wing" of the Republican Party had held the national interest hostage during last year's debate over the U.S. borrowing limit despite President Barack Obama's "goodwill and strong efforts." will at the very least cause you some self-doubt in your position. If not, I suspect many other fairer minded individuals in our community may.

And for the record...I DON'T consider George Bush Sr OR Jr, John MCCain to be Conservatives, they are RINO's. And also, you are lying about Jan Brewer (not a surprise, you're a liberal). She misspoke at a convention and her record clearly proves that she is NO friend of BO.
Silly liberals, always making up stuff to make themselves look smart.

@Republicanism - Now That's a Threat on Ameica:

"Now David G, please try to remember a little history - factual history. America was attacked under Republican leadership."

That attack was nothing compared to the damage by Obama's attack on America's founding priciples!

Mr. Weisser you tried to win. But since you did not you can stay with you're students at White Cliffs Middle School, who love and are sad that you lost but are happy you get to stay here with them. Maybe you can win the next alection.

Article comment by: Some Really Know How to Represent the Finest Qualities in the Republican Party

Proud K., now try to be proud of your party's representatives:
Jan Brewer - so enthusiastically endorsed no, not Romney but Obama. She's such a "brilliant" govenor
Trent Franks - who is known to be one of the biggest laughing stock in congress.
McCain - enough said on this one - now what side of the issue is he one now?

Speaking of Flip Flops - Romney - exactly what is he hiding in those taxes?
Goodale - drugs "alledgedly" sold out of her home but always one to speak on education and telling us how to live
Bush - 2 wars, bankrupt U.S, Katina "Heck of a job, Brownie", and most importantly allowing our country to be invaded under the Republican watch - we're still paying greatly for that good o' Republican
and all the local Republicans, be they on the
BOS or city council, with such "outstanding" leadership and visionary skills that our area continues to decend into 3rd world

Oh, also Proud K, it's a real shame that your solution to dissent, stimulating political debate, diversity of opinion is to urge opponents of your views to move out of our state.

I for one am very happy to see that the vote was so close! For too many years it has been a one party fight. If you were not one of the Good Ole' Boys , you did not stand much of a chance in politics. At first I did not think Mr. Wiesser had much of a chance to win. i am encouraged to think that maybe the underdog may have a chance after all! I believe in the foundations of this country. I also believe that the founding fathers never intended for our leader to be bought and paid for by corporations and the top 1%. Nor do I believe that there is anything in the Constitution that says that the rich rule. In fact that is why our forefathers left England and came here to start a new country not ruled by the elete, and where the government could not choose your religion for you!

Mikel Weisser commented:

There's nothing more threatening to the American way of life, than Progressivism! If more voters would educate themselves to the forces at work against the founding principles of America, we wouldn't have to worry about Progressives!

I guess bringing in that communist poet to read to our kids was a little "misstep", huh?

Well I for one am glad to see that we won't have to worry about this clearly delusional candidate any longer. This goes to show the importance of getting out to vote. It should have never been as close as it was. Now if we could only figure out a way to free our children from this delusion at White Cliffs.

I for one thank God he lost.

The last thing Arizona needs is another liberal trying to turn a great state into another slave to massa-government.

But hey...Mr. Wiesser, I hear California has plenty of room for more, why don't you try fitting in there instead of trying to change what we have here?

Change is not always a good thing, and abandoning our Constitution & Bill of Rights is not progress.
