Police arrested a mother and her boyfriend last week after the couple reportedly tried to kidnap the woman's infant from the custodial father at gunpoint.

Kingman Police Capt. Rusty Cooper said one shot was fired but no one was injured during the incident the morning of May 22.

The couple, Frankie Y. Valdez, 27, and Kimberly Dawn Willden, 21, both of Kingman, were arrested after police stopped their car in the area of Airway Avenue and Castle Rock Road around 11:30 a.m. The couple had reportedly fled a home in the 3200 block of North Central Street, where witnesses said Valdez and Willden confronted Willden's ex-boyfriend over a 1-year-old the estranged couple have.

Valdez is alleged to have brandished a semi-automatic handgun while demanding the child be returned to Willden. The couple left when witnesses called police.

Cooper said that a gun was found in the couple's car after it had been stopped, along with methamphetamine and assorted drug paraphernalia.

Valdez was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, disorderly conduct, possession of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. Willden was charged with domestic violence by disorderly conduct.

I couldn't agree more. So many times the courts are biased toward women, in that they are automatically considred to be best for the child. It's time for people and the courts to wake up and realize that a persons sex does not always determine there ability to be a good parent. Especially these days.

Guess this woman proves beyond a shadow of any doubt not all women are fit to be a custodial parent and the drugs being found on her and her new boyfriend just enhances whom ever gave custody to the father was wise!
