A 24-year-old Kingman man was jailed Friday after a homeowner interrupted a car theft in progress, according to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office.

Bailey Joe Bell was booked into the Mohave County Jail for felony burglary. Bell reportedly took off running when a male homeowner in the 2300 block of East Sierra Vista Avenue went outside around 7 a.m. and caught Bell allegedly trying to steal a friend's truck parked outside.

The man followed him to the 2100 block of Gordon Drive, where deputies responded and arrested Bell, who admitted to trying to hotwire the truck, said Sheriff's spokeswoman Trish Carter.

A thief is a thief is a thief. You don't want bashing or criticism, then DON'T STEAL. Everybody is going through hard times, you don't just wake up one day and decide to steal a car, you have been doing crime and just haven't got caught. If my son stole or tried to steal, I would be the first one to turn him in, and NOT post bail, but oh, wait my son is a police officer, so I don.t have that problem.. When you make the choice to steel, you get whats coming. It's time we stop coddling criminals.
