KINGMAN - Funeral services for Ariel Allison, the 18-year-old killed during a domestic violence attack July 4, have been put on hold as her mother continues to recover at the hospital.
Jennifer Allison, 35, remains in stable condition in the intensive care unit of a Las Vegas hospital. Allison underwent a seven-hour cranial and facial surgery Saturday. She received extensive injuries to her face and head after she was stabbed multiple times and shot in the back of the head.
Darrell Ketchner, Allison's ex-boyfriend, will appear in Superior Court today. He is charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, two counts of aggravated assault by domestic violence, burglary in the first degree by domestic violence and one count of misconduct involving a weapon.
Ketchner broke into the Allison home shortly before 11 p.m. July 4, according to police, and attacked the family as they sat around a dining room table.
Five people were home at the time. A 16-year-old is credited with getting two young toddlers out of the home. A fifth sibling was not at home at the time.
Doctors won't speculate on a timeline for Jennifer's recovery, said her sister, Jeanene Allison. Jennifer is alert and answering questions but is groggy from pain medication, her sister said. Jennifer's four children, including three by Ketchner, are staying with relatives.
Jeanene Allison said the family is taking Jennifer's condition day by day.
"We're gripping on to any good news," she said.
Allison expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support from the community, calling their generosity to a number of fundraisers amazing.
