KINGMAN - A Mohave County man was arrested last week on multiple charges of sexually abusing his own children.

Bernard Scott Stewart, 44, was booked into the Mohave County Jail Wednesday on nine counts of sexual conduct with a minor, two counts of public sexual indecency to a minor, two counts of child/vulnerable adult abuse and one count each of luring a minor for sexual exploitation, sexual assault, incest, and molestation of a child. Trish Carter, spokeswoman for the Sheriff's Office, said the allegations involve a boy and girl, ages 11 and 17. Authorities were first contacted regarding the children in March by a relative who said the siblings were malnourished and being abused. Carter said investigators immediately began looking into the case, but were hindered by a lack of cooperation on the part of the children's mother, who was said to be under the control of her husband and not ready to speak with investigators about the abuse.

The family lives near the Interstate 40 and Highway 93 interchange. The children were not removed by Child Protective Services but are no longer living in the home, Carter said.

@What is wrong in this world?

AGREED! I am so happy my son will never have to go through this despicable behavior. What the hell people! Take care of your children, for they are your own flesh and blood. Clothe them, teach them, and love them.

I knew of this family. He lost his buisness and no longer worked. They lived like hermits and he isolated his family. He was FULL of himself and if you look at his picture he does have a grin on his face. Yes, there is alot of untold things that happened but, why didn't CPS remove those children when they were?? I personally feel they are both to blame. The mother could have told DPS get "us out of here". I would never let my family live the way he did and he was suppose to be "God Fearing" OH PLEASE. He will get his just punishment.

As a victim of sexual abuse by the hands of my father( may he rot in hell). There are 8 kids in my family and let me tell you we are all messed up. We all were beat wiped,. myself my father shook me so hard my eyes rolled back in my head and I went into convulsions at the age of three. At the age of 11 he started with the bathroom accidents which I will not go into detail. I told my mother at the age of 14. she was in shock and tried to divorce him but changed her mind. I left home at 15. And in my opinion is that they are both guilty . The mother for allowing it to happen. When you have a child you put that child first and only first. I hope he Fries And she should be mentally evaluated and then tried.

"but were hindered by a lack of cooperation on the part of the children's mother, who was said to be under the control of her husband..."

Bottom line. Good parents would not hesitate to put their kids safety before their own in a instant. It seems like it took your friend a few months. Great parenting.

This is such a sad situation, but so much more common then people actually realize. Fear is a shackle, hard to break free from It seems the entire family has been shackled. As for the father, he'll get his day in court and be judged for his sins in the end as well.

Shelia, I am the mother to 3 wonderful kids, I would rather die than to let some SOB touch them. You stated that the life of the mother and children were "propably threatened everyday". Propably is a big assumption, and if you were any friend maybe you could have offered to help get her and those kids out of that kind of enviroment. Any mother who would sit back and play house with these kinds of monsters should get the same punishment given to these predators. The article states, "Authorities were first contacted regarding the children in March by a relative who said the siblings were malnourished and being abused". So this great mother couldn't even feed her children? Just my opinion but both of them need to be in jail, and for that matter anyone who knew of this abuse and didn't do something about it sooner.

Threatened everyday?.

Im sorry. But Why would a Mother that "left with only the clothes they were wearing".

Not leave after the FIRST incedent. Thats protecting the children. NOT being theatened everyday. This Man had to leave the house to work or do anything at least once a day.

Had she really protected her kids. Mom would have grabbed the kids and been leaving with the clothes on her back the first "free" moment after she knew of the first Incedent.

If you were truely a "friend" why didnt YOU help or force her to leave Immediately at the first chance? Or call for her help youself?

Please... Mom lost her "protection status" the moment she and her kids were still there for an opportunity for a "Second" incedent to occur.

Sorry the truth hurts.

This mother's llife was probably threatened
everyday and so were the children's lives. She
finally was able to get them to safety. They left
with nothing but the clothes they were wearing.
Don't judge a book by its cover untill you read it.
For sure don't you judge this mother! I can speak
for her, because she is my friend.

If this man is guilty of the crimes he is charged with, they couldn't possibly give him enough time for his crimes.

Fathers and step-fathers molesting their children, teens killing other teens, parents letting teenagers have sex and smoke pot, kids being locked in footlockers and ovens, I just don't understand where our country has gone? I understand that morals have evolved a lot in the last 40 years that I have been on this earth but when did any of these behaviors become ok? Its like we are all in a toilet waiting for our turn to be flushed away...Kids don't ask to be born. If you bring a child into the world it is your responsiblity as a parent to either provide a safe and nurturing environment or give them to someone who will provide that. This "father" in the paper should be hanging by his genitals for what he is "alleged" to have done, and the mother should be in that tree right beside him for "basically protecting him" from being prosecuted for his disgusting actions! I thank God everyday that my children haven't had to go through any of this crap.
