Building a stronger community
By Susan Piccinino, kingman, az
Progress requires Citizens to participate in the betterment, and commend our Justice System, not condemn community leaders who are always willing to consider intelligent feedback.

Mohave County is prime location, great weather and a great community.

 Citizen Journalist; Susan Piccinino

Arizona is one of the fastest growing states in the U.S. with Mohave County experiencing a fantastic period of expansion - more growth per-capita than any other county in Arizona over the past seven years. Mohave is the fifth largest county in the nation and second largest in the state. Appreciate the backdrop of our location.

My desk is strategically placed by a window, where each morning I can watch the sun come up over the mountains. I do not live in one of the best neighborhoods. My home is modest, but I feel privileged to have this million-dollar Kingman Mountain View every day.

Many folks are able to work with the innate goodness of human beings, but also tap the pent-up need we all feel for a sense of community. Kindness, and consideration for others ... I would like to believe it is something that is an innate quality we all have.

In today's economy, hundreds of thousands of people are losing their jobs and homes. We can all do a little something to help our neighbor. Most of us want to help and sometimes we just cannot figure out how. Sometimes just asking or offering a helping hand can be rewarding.

Neighbors helping neighbors is how to build a secure community. Being a good neighbor does not mean you have to be best friends. Sometimes that works - but it does not have to. Being a good neighbor means living peacefully in a neighborhood

We are all aware that the economy is going through trying times. Some people go along on a roller coaster ride of negativity. Others are determined to find the silver lining they know is in the clouds. If there is a need seen, there are constructive ways to find a way to fulfill those needs.

Mohave County is prime location, great weather, and easy accessibility. Many people are choosing to reside in Mohave County and commute to surrounding areas. I passed through the area hundreds of time over the last couple of decades and when I was ready to settle into home ownership Kingman was the first town that came to mind.

Mohave County has a warm, sunny climate that favors outdoor activity at all times of the year, with low humidity and perpetual sunny skies. This virtually smog-free, dry and hot climate creates a very desirable environment for the residents of the area.

It has all the conveniences of suburban living and it seems a new store or restaurant is opening every month. There are many fine neighborhoods in Kingman and it is great for retirement. Kingman Regional Medical Center boasts a state-of-the-art cancer treatment facility, providing care to patients from all over the country.

Kingman, the Heart of Historic Route 66 & one of the hidden treasures of Arizona, is conveniently located on Interstate 40 and is the perfect launching point for "Route 66 and Beyond." Scenic hiking, historic charm, great cafes and restaurants, and the allure of Route 66 combine to make Kingman a remarkable destination.

Before I retire each evening, I walk out into the west side of my home where I can see another mountain where the sun sets. I have not learned the names of the mountains yet, but I do know that no matter which direction I look, there is mountain scenery.

When darkness falls, the lights of Stockton Hill light up the base of the mountain and it looks like Christmas every night of the year. Now, in December, I see my community getting into the spirit of hanging more lights for the holidays on their homes.

I am somewhat new here, so tell me what you love about our community and maybe tell the readers what brought you to Kingman, Arizona.
