Obstacles are in place to discourage resident from running for supervisor

Another proverbial political hat has been tossed into the logjam of candidates running for the District 4 Supervisor, but for some unknown reason, many roadblocks are constantly springing up to keep this feisty Golden Valley resident from announcing her candidacy and from officially entering the race.

Seventy-seven-year-old Tala Marie, who resides a short jaunt south of Highway 68 near Cave Springs and the Mt. Nutt Wilderness Area, decided it was time for another to join the circus act called the Mohave County political arena.

She has personally seen many changes occur within Mohave County since the blessed event when she arrived into this world; some were good ideas, but others can be deemed a nightmarish experience or what could be considered abuse of authority/powers.

There are a few major roadblocks facing Ms. Marie, who was born in her mom's bedroom in the meager double-wide mobile home located on 2.21 acres in sparsely populated Golden Valley, which her family called home until only a couple of years ago. Did her mom mess up by not notifying the county she had been born - the reason no birth certificate was issued? Probably so. And of course, Ms. Marie hasn't helped the situation by never applying for a Social Security card and for only working "under the table" for food scraps or and other staples that have made her life comfortable for herself and her sister.

Because of the aforementioned problems facing Ms. Marie by not having a birth certificate, Social Security card or any form of photo identification, the Mohave County Registrar of Voters has indicated she is ineligible to register to vote due to not having the proper documentation.

However, even though Ms. Marie will not be a registered voter, she thinks she can skirt the problems and legal issues facing her by running as a write-in candidate and only filling out the "Write-in Candidate Nomination Affidavit Of Qualification Campaign Finance Laws Statement."

Ms. Marie understands imitation is the best form of flattery and realizes many of her agenda items contained as part of her political platform to fix and/or make right the wrongs of Mohave County are being emulated by other candidates running for political office. She knows that even though she hasn't been allowed to register to vote and/or allowed to turn in her official paperwork to run for office as an independent, Democrat, Green Party or Republican, many of the other candidates currently running for the five supervisor positions have jumped on her band wagon and are attempting to ride on her coattails. Many of these candidates have taken the liberty to make their political agendas and platforms isomorphic to Ms. Marie's.

Ms. Marie believes many of the elected Mohave County officials have lost contact with reality and with those who have entrusted the county for them to operate, and this is the main justification for her including her name to the laundry list of people seeking to become the Supervisor for the newly established District 4.

According to those who know Ms. Marie, they believe the feisty female's agenda and platform is one of the best Mohave County has ever seen and will not likely see again for decades to come.

Many think Ms. Marie is a self-motivated and progressive-thinking candidate whose knowledge far exceeds the years she has been on Earth and that she will be receptive to the wants and desires of residents.

There are plans in the works for her campaign crew or posse and supporters to conduct various Meet & Greets throughout District 4 and into the far reaches of the Mohave County outback as such distant places as Meadview, so the residents will not have to drive too far in order to chat with Ms. Marie. She wants to understand what concerns the voters have with the county and what are their suggestions to make the Mohave County operate smooth, heal its deep wounds caused by past regimes and how to save taxpayer revenues.

Ms. Marie understands there are laws and ordinances currently on the books of Mohave County that are either archaic or are just plain stupid. She also believes some, in her own words, should go away like migrating birds heading south for the winter, especially in addition ordnances, certain county officials and high-ranking employees who, in her own opinion, haven't done the a best job of representing the county's residents and interests.

The following are just a few of Ms. Marie's political platform and agenda:

• Wants to understand what concerns the voters have with the county and what are their suggestions to make Mohave County operate smoother and to save taxpayer revenues;
• Wants county officials to effectively utilize revenues and for them not to waste them on unnecessary "feel-good-pet projects";
• She would not accept a salary if lucky enough to overcome the obstacle of having to be a write-in candidate and is elected to the position District 4 Supervisor. Her relatives indicate Ms. Marie thinks being elected and serving as "a people's representative" is payment enough;
• Repeal the county ordnance that stipulates if someone steals a bar of soap, they must use that stolen bar of soap until it is all gone;
• Repeal the pigeon ordnance instituted by Mohave County Board of Supervisor Chairman Buster in the late 1990s that says if a resident is caught feeding pigeons, they can be fined $100 per day for feeding pigeons. And toss out where the BOS again visited the pigeon ordnance in 2009 and Supervisor Tom Sockwell initiated the change to raise the civil fine to $750 for the first offense, and if the perpetrator didn't come into compliance within 15 days, they would be responsible for a $1,000 per day civil fine for the continued offense of feeding pigeons;
• Believes it is perfectly OK to feed the various wildlife species that venture down from the mountains seeking food because of the lack of game and food products available in their natural habitat;
• Repeal certain County-mandated requirements for building permits because she believes a person should be able to do as they like and build what they want on their own property without a bunch of county employees telling them what they can and can't do on their property;
• Instruct county staff to conduct an investigation to determine what other ordnances and rules in the county should be abolished or changed;
• Instruct the county staff to continually look for empty space in county-owned buildings to utilize instead of having to "go outside" to lease buildings to house county functions and facilities;
• Instruct all current and future employees of the file a notification of conflict of interest as state-mandated by Arizona Revised Statues if either they or one of their relatives are doing business and or plans on doing any business with the county;
• Wants all residents of Mohave County to embrace the "open range" laws that have historically been and continue to be part of Arizona's heritage. She thinks the poor cattle destined to end up on someone's dinner plate should have an unalienable right and opportunity to travel throughout the County unabated;
• Institute "The Call To The Public" so residents will have an opportunity to express their concerns and suggestions to the Supervisors because she believes that many residents' requests to have certain items placed on the BOS' agenda for their meetings have mostly fallen on deaf ear in the past;
• Do away with the dress code inspired by Mohave County Manager Ron Walker. She believes the dress code is the most stupid rule the county has ever instituted for a BOS meeting. She also says that if someone shows up to the BOS meeting with a shirt containing the F-word or some other inappropriate word on it, officials should be thankful that person owns a T-shirt. The officials can politely inform them they are aware of their First Amendment Rights, but would appreciate it very much if they would turn the T-shirt inside out so no one else could view what they consider as offensive wording to them. And instead of them being arrested for trespassing, offer them one of the county-owned T-shirts available in various sizes for loan if the person continues to exercise his or her First Amendment rights. On those shirts would be printed "I Love Mohave County And Its Citizens";
• Will conduct BOS meetings twice per month - one during the morning hours such as they currently have and the other during the evening hours so residents do not have to take off time from work to attend. With this day of the slumping economy, employees shouldn't have to be subjected to termination from work for not showing up in order to attend BOS meeting;
• Have an open-door policy so residents can just stop by to chat with their Supervisors when they arrive in town to purchase supplies to hold them over during those harsh winters we have been experiencing due to the reverse-global warming theory.
• She understands Mohave County encompasses a large portion of Arizona and all Supervisors, no matter what district they represent, should be receptive to the wants, needs and desires of county residents, especially since many of them must travel long distances just to see them;
• Have the county conduct sensitivity training classes for all employees so they will understand that the residents pay their salaries and they should treat all residents with compassion and dignity when dealing with them;
• Instruct all county officials and employees that condescending behavior by employees will not be tolerated and if it occurs, it would be grounds for immediate termination of their employment;
• That the newly-hired county manager's contract will not be "over-the-top" as Ron Walker's is and he will not receive a golden parachute clause.
• If the newly-hired county manager disrespects residents in any such way or brings embarrassment to the county by his behavior, his employment will be immediately terminated;
• To ensure the newly-hired county manager understands he works for the residents of the county and that they pay his salary;
• That the newly-hired county manager understands he is responsible to his bosses - the BOS, instead of him believing they work for him;
• Wants to improve the county supervisor-resident relations by hosting an annual county-wide picnic at Recreation Area 1 in the Hualapai Mountains that will include group-hug events and that the residents who decide to attend will have a howling good time; and last but not least,
• Ensure that there is sufficient justification and probable cause before a resident is taken into custody for an alleged crime. A prime example of overzealous county officials going beyond their scope of authority before all of the facts were known and jumping to conclusions is when Ms. Marie's sister Sheba was arrested a few years ago for allegedly murdering a neighbor's chickens. After spending a lonely night in deplorable conditions, and in total isolation in a dark-cold-and-damp cell, it was finally determined Ms. Marie's sister hadn't committed the crime. She was ultimately released from custody without a simple "I'm Sorry" from the county official who had arrested her. As a matter of fact, her mom was originally unjustly cited in regard to the alleged chicken caper and had to appear before a Kingman Justice Court judge who ultimately threw out the case for lack of poultry evidence.

Ms. Marie says her candidacy is nothing to bark about, but feels she can sink her canines into the county's problems by bringing an air of honesty back to when there was a time all supervisors represented residents and were not self-serving.

She believes supervisors should represent residents and not just big business that line their pockets with payola and help fill their campaign war chests. Furthermore, she believes that "if you play with the Devil, then you become the Devil's advocate" and this is why she sees a need for laws that govern the amount of out-of-county revenues that can given to candidates running for elected county positions.

Ms. Marie thinks that if you don't want to take a chance on backing a relatively unknown Golden Valley rebel rouser and don't want to put her name on the write-in portion of the ballot, then she asks that everyone take as much time necessary to look very closely at the other candidates. She wants everyone to make an intelligent decision and not just head into the voting booth on election day being unknowledgeable about each candidate, what their agendas are and what plans they have to heal the deep wounds Mohave County has experienced by the self-serving elected officials and higher-up employees in the past.

Ms. Marie says she can't afford a telephone and her nearest neighbor with a phone isn't too close, so she suggests people who want to contact her, can email her at old.gal.running.for.supervisor@frontier.com. She says she would love hearing from interesting people who might have innovative ideas and suggestions on how to make Mohave County a better place to live.

In closing, Ms. Marie understands Mohave County has a lot of good honest people with basic moral values residing in it, and that life has come full circle to a point where our county needs to be run for the people, by honest people.

I'm not saying local government has gone to the dogs, but I'll bet Tala could fetch a lot of votes.

Christinia Watson, why would you say the county and country is doomed? Don't you like Tara Marie's political platform and agenda or are you one of the people who believe everything in the county administration is perfect?

Ms. Marie, please allow me to help in some way. If I as a citizen of these United States were refused my God given right to vote, I am afraid that I would be howling at the moon! Please continue in your fight and do not hide away in your den and let them beat you! God bless.

Thanks Butch.

Ms. Marie sounds exactly like the type of Supervisor we need. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could clone her?

Ms. Marie's platform sound as close to that of a "sovereign citizen" as I have heard from any candidate. Hopefully Homeland Security or the FBI will not whisk her away in the middle of the night under the revised NDAA bill.

I,d vote for her just for THIS:

"Ensure that there is sufficient justification and probable cause before a resident is taken into custody for an alleged crime. and possibly the pigeon thing. I dont quite understand the problem in feeding them.

I don't live in District 4, so I don't have a dog in this fight. But it sounds like you have a pretty good caninedate there.

Many have wondered why I started my political journey late in life and I’ll explain. I wanted to make difference and hopefully correct the wrongs of the current Mohave County Administration.

The biggest injustice that inspired me to get out of my rocking chair and for me to toss my bonnet into the dog race for District 4 Supervisor came about when BOS Chairman Buster Johnson and Supervisor Tom Sockwell attempted to push the two-dog ordnance down the throats of Mohave County residents. For the life of me, I can’t figure out why Johnson and Sockwell have such a haughty contempt for the four-legged friends/family members who always show unquestioned allegiance, love and respect to their masters.

Even though I am just one in the giant pound of life, I wanted to collar their efforts because I believe the citizens of our county didn’t believe the BOS was representing their desires.

I understand that most of the county’s residents can't afford property larger than what their house sits on, but how about the lucky ones who may own a 10 to 20,000-acre ranch. Should they also be limited to two dogs for such a mighty ranch? I don’t think so and that is why I think the current BOS has lost contact with reality and the desires of the citizens who voted them into office.That is why I decided to run for District 4 Supervisor.

It must be shakeup time in Mohave County politics and the incumbents need to be voted out of office. The three have caused so much damage, especially by extending King Little Ronnie Walker’s contract. It will be a nicer time in our county when the four of them have nothing to do with running the county.

Wow! Looks like Buster Johnson must have suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome after reading an essay by Robert Benchly called "Down with Pigeons". One thing for certain is Buster Johnson has been in office way too long, so it's time for him to fly the coop.

I'm shaking my head at this county election season. While I applaud everyone who's thrown their hat into the ring to right their perceived wrongs, it seems that a lot of goofy candidates are going to screw things up even worse.

Mohave County is the laughingstock of the state in a lot of regards and a lot has to do with the locals we don't need cows running amok to do that. The same eccentric locals think they can fix this county and bring it into the 21'st century? Come on, I love this county but don't wanna have it run by imbeciles. I am not in a position to run, nor do I have the experience needed to properly run a county bigger than some states.

By the way, I'm quite familiar with the County Ordinances and there's no ordinance that says if a bar of soap is stolen that it needs to be used. Here's hoping that this county gets quality leadership this go 'round.
