In our view, cries of racism are becoming more intense because they are becoming less effective. Obama is in political trouble not because he is black but because he has done a poor job as president. We will hear a lot about the scourge of racism between now and November, in part because his supporters need to blame somebody other than him for his failures of leadership, and in part because they hope that black fear and white guilt will help him to win re-election. In the absence of the latter outcome, things ought to calm down after the election. James Taranto/WSJ
Conservatives have been saying this from the get-go: calling us racist is a pure and simple bunk argument when you have nothing else to argue. And they have nothing else to argue in defense of this president. Every single thing comes down to race to these people on the left.
On Father's Day, Michelle Obama called her husband "the coolest dad ever" but let a conservative call him "cool" and it's a code word for racism. Everything uttered by a conservative is code for racism, according to the left. It's not possible to be politically correct ENOUGH with these people.
On the other hand, they are quick to call the GOP the party of "old white men" and no one holds the racism mirror up to them. That is a testament to how conservatives versus leftists think. Those on the left have a preoccupation with race and in pure Alinsky fashion, it's their primary, constant battle cry. Even leftists who know nothing about Alinsky know that race (as well as feminism) is and always will be a cause they can pull out and try to beat the rest of us over the head with, and we will back off and back down because who wants to be called that?
The bright side is that it no longer holds any impact for most of us. Call me a racist and it makes no difference to me because you don't know me, my family makeup or who my friends are. It only shows the ignorance of the name caller, nothing more.
Godwin's law with a new twist: every conversation will devolve into racist name-calling. From Wikipedia: [Godwin's law] states: "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1."[2][3] In other words, Godwin observed that, given enough time, in any online discussion - regardless of topic or scope - someone inevitably makes some comparison to Hitler and the Nazis.
Just change the words Hitler and Nazi to race and racism and it's Godwin's law, although most of us also know that being called a Nazi or Hitler is another one of their tactics.
But the more of us who recognize this, and by most indications most of us do recognize it, the less impact the left's racist argument will have.

What We Have ... Conservatism Causes Madness
Well now that you mentioned it Peter I wasn't joking.
I should have been a bit more clear as to the numerous observation of this curious group calling themselves conservatives. For 60 years nowI have observed the madness of conservatives at BOS meetings, at city council meetings, at congressional townhalls, on national talk shows, on the internet, and in print media. So I guess it wasn't just the photo although it did put a picture fo the madness known as Today's Conservative Movement

"Gee, the photo of the Mad Conservative leads me to the conclusion that conservatism causes madness."
Really? ONE random photo gives you the overwhelming desire to judge and to slander a huge group of people and make bigoted remarks about what oh-so-very-important-who-even-cares television shows they must be watching. No you were not just joking. Shame on you.

So for those wishing to avoid mental problems run, don't walk away from conservatism.
And for those already afflicted with this disease turn off Fox and Rush and Hannity and take a Valium.

"Everyone, please answer this question for yourself...If you are "white" when was the last time you sat down to eat a meal with a black or Hispanic person that wasn't business-related? How many friends do you have outside your ethnic group?"
You don't have to convince us as much as you apparently need to convince yourself that YOU are not racist.
By the way, Hispanic is not a race.
Turn it around - how many "black" people do you think sits down to a meal with caucasians or asians? How many friends do most "blacks" have outside their ethnic group? You are using invalid methods of gauging racism but you are a "teacher' so you already knew that right?

So you are not a racist....and don't care if I call you one...
Is that true or do you just no longer feel the need to pretend?
Everyone, please answer this question for yourself...If you are "white" when was the last time you sat down to eat a meal with a black or Hispanic person that wasn't business-related? How many friends do you have outside your ethnic group?
The sad thing is that if I asked this question of a black or Hispanic person, they would answer that it was sometime within the last week, maybe even in the last 24 hours...but for most whites that answer might very well be, "Never"--especially if we are talking about only blacks!
MLK dreamed of a day when blacks and whites would sit down and eat dinner together...not only is this not happening, but the repubs won't even sit down to discuss compromises with our black president...and state that their main purpose is not to improve the lives of all Americans...but simply to make sure he is a one term president? No, that's not racist...
The least we can do is be honest with ourselves...all this lying and hating is making me sick!

I, too, am tired of class warfare! I am tired of seeing the children in my community go without showers because their parents can't afford to buy water. I am tired of my local school being looted for the benefit of those in larger, wealthier communities. I am tired of being told that the reason I struggle to get by is that I am lazy...never mind the fact that I work over 60 hours a week, invested in higher education, and donate what few hours I have left to helping others!
This can all be solved by corporations paying a tax rate that reflects what our government does to support them:
1. Ensures the reliability of the monetary system. 2. Enforces patent and trademark laws, even to the extent of going to war over property rights. 3. Educates and trains citizens so that they need minimal training when hired by private organizations. 4. Builds and maintains the transportation and communications infrastructure that allows them to do business efficiently and effectively. 5. Negotiates trade treaties that benefit corporations over small businesses that pay a much higher tax rate than corporations.
There are more but these are the most obvious!
PS—I think the best choice would be to flip-flop the tax rates. Corporations can pay 38% of their income (or more) and individuals (including families and small businesses) should pay 15% or less…that would end most our economic issues over time and allow for explosive growth in the middle class!

And a black conservative is referred to as a "Jim Crow", but that isn't racism? The Republicans freed the slaves, the Democrats organized the KKK. Recently a bill, initiated by a Republican failed that would have made discriminatory abortions a crime. Democrats supported Sanger and her agenda with Planned Parenthood, if that isn't racism, what is?

Joe I just wanted to add that On June 14, 1954, President Eisenhower signed the bill officially adding "under God" to the Pledge of Allegiance. This was during the McCarthy era better known as McCarthyism. Was that not a proud moment in American history.

There is no difference between "left" and "right" in America. All that matters in this age is that Israel's interests are being served. This nation is a means-to-an-end for another.
Now turn on your TV, tune in to the "experts", and blindly cheer on your side.

Now I suppose that Senator Mitch McConnell is doing a fantastic job governing when he says that his job is not to govern but to "make President Obama a one term president."
Do you think I'm stupid? Mitch McConnell and his ignorant pals thought President Obama was going to be a pushover. Their idea of bipartisanship is their way or the highway. When the president pushed back he was seen by Mitch McConnell and his pals as not knowing what his place was.
So now we have a political fight about job creators. The so called job creators want to be rewarded for their risk taking. I suppose the workers in the job creator's companies don't want to be rewarded with a decent day's pay for the work they contribute to the economy. Of course they do. They have had enough of Ryan Romney pretzel logic economics.
Allowing corporations to do whatever they please under the guise of creating jobs doesn't do any favors for anyone. It will only pollute my water, foul the air I breathe and make the lives of my children and grandchildren in a corporate dystopia a living hell and beholden to sleazy politicians and sleazy corporate bosses.

So your answer to supposedly being called a racist for whatever your views are is let me get down in the mud and roll around with these people and lower myself to their level. People who have a different view are not racists they just have a different perspective, but since this paper allows posters to frequently call the President among other names obummer, odummer and barry and other names I would be led to believe you at the least cater to the racist segment of our society. Of course you also foolishly allow 1 poster the infantile right to call former Pres. Bush a thief a real class act. And while doing this you greatly diminish a truly great privilege you have to inform the community honestly of what is happening. Remember sticks and stone will break my bones but names will never hurt me. Maybe this old saying is no longer true since since you can post almost any thing on the internet today and their will be some people who will believe the most outrageous lies.

Childish Name-calling
True, it's easy enough to call someone "racist" if you don't agree with them, but why stop there? It's just as easy to call someone "Muslim" or "socialist" if you don't agree with them. What's the difference? It's still just childish name-calling no matter who's doing it.

I'm personally tire of the class warfare, white vs black, rich vs poor, left vs right, etc.... none of this useless banter fixes the issues the country faces.... Jobs, Immigration, Healthcare, Spending, HEELLOOO! It's time to sit at the "adult table" for a change and debate these issues, something neither side seems able to do these days. The United States of America was founded as a republic not a democracy. We use to say it all the time as a reminder..." I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

It seems it's true Thurlow gets more of a chance to air her opinion than others. But I say give her a break. Writing a great blog takes practice and she makes some good points here.
As a conservative it does blow my mind how much neither side wants to apply reason and logic. For instance, if your life has taught you directly to distrust liberals and with proof, then that creates prejudice.
Had a discussion with a liberal democrat from Cal, couldn't believe how much she felt Bush accepted bribes etc. She has learned differently. Very interesting discussion.

This blog is just repeating the same talking points that we hear day in and day out from other right wing media sources.
So you think the other species (liberals) are bad! Wow, stop the presses! Let me guess, they are also evil? No way! The're calling you racists..oh I am so sorry to hear. It's not like conservatives name call. I mean, calling people marxists, socialists, communists, femi-nazis, pinheads, etc. is not name calling at all! That's different.
Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. This is the last time I comment on one of these threads, only because there is literally millions of identical blog posts out there on this subject.
Hopefully Rush will give us some new material and we can focus on that instead of actual problems like our frozen congress. Who cares what happens to us, as long as team Red wins!

You're right. I don't know you, your family makeup or who your friends are. The only aspect I have to judge you by are the words you have printed by your husband, the Editor, even to the streaming marquee, which no other blogger on the Miner has ever had.
I also note your citing Wikipedia, a source which most right-wingers decry as being completely invalid because it's falsely accused of being editable by anyone without any vetting.
I'm sorry, but your words relieve anything you say of having any validity in the real world. Now see, I'm a "leftist" and never once used any of the hateful words you hang around our necks.

Very intelligent article. It expressed some of my sentiments well. I grew up in a VERY racist environment but (after maturing) considered myself progressive in that area. After Obamas Presidency began, his words and deeds and the actions of his subordinates have slowly eroded the advances I have made. Am I the only one? Wanna talk racist? He most definately is the Racist in Chief. Why is it nobody wants to lay that at HIS front door? I have always pondered the fact that great evil is always described as being 'Nazi' or 'Hitler' like. Evil as he was, he kinda rates about midway down the body count scale. Out killing Hitler by approximately 20 million was Joseph Stalin, yet one nevers hears 'you communist ba$&@rd'. Curious.

So true, if someone is being discriminated against I would say the white male is in many respects, I say this in reference to jobs mostly, minorities, women and vets are given first priority on jobs and the white male is now last to be considered. Should not all be considered and the best person for a job and or position be chosen regardless of race, gender or military service? Should not all of us be considered as equals and be given an even chance or is reverse discrimination the order of the day? As long as the race card is put into play it will just kepp alive the dislike for minorities.
