Obituary: Lawrence Turner

Lawrence Criswell Turner passed on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012. He was born on March 31, 1935, in Globe, Ariz., the youngest of 11 children, three girls and eight boys. His father was the Justice of the Peace in Gila County and his mother a homemaker.

His family had homesteaded in Young (Pleasant Valley), Ariz., in the early 1910s. In Young, Lawrence would come to meet Edna Mae Hanson, the love of his life, after she left her parents' house and moved to Young with a friend. They would marry in 1954.

He was drafted into the Army and fortunately narrowly missed the hostilities in Korea. He and Edna came to Kingman with their only child, Rhonda, in 1963. He worked for Duvall Mine and then went into road construction. He joined Local 428 Operating Engineers in 1958 and retired in 2000. Lawrence loved the outdoors and spent as much time hunting, fishing, camping and off-roading as was possible. He was also very mechanical and would think about whatever problem he was working on for days until he finally got to the bottom of it. Being a man of few words, his approval was often given with a smile and wink.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Edna, who passed in June 2011. He is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Jackson; grandson, Brandon Turner; granddaughter-in-law, Chanel Turner; and great-granddaughter, Harper Turner, all of Kingman. He is also survived by his sister, Wiona Trobaugh of Globe, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

No services will be held, but the family will take his ashes to be spread with Edna's in the same meadow just outside Williams, Ariz.

Rhonda, I am so sorry for the loss of your father and I am even more sad to say I didn't even know your mother has passed. I have such fond memories of your family. They were always such good friends to our family. My prayers are with you.

Susan
