Obituary: Sam Marshall

Sam Marshall, born May 30, 1957, was carried to Heaven by the angels on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013. Sam was born to Andrew and Janet Marshall in Escondido, Calif. He was raised in Southern California and attended high school in Ramona, where he met and fell in love with his soul mate, JoAnn. They were married in the summer of 1978.

Sam and JoAnn moved to Arizona and in the fall of 1980 welcomed their first child, Mathew David. In 1985 their family of four was completed with Christopher Lee. Kingman became the family's permanent home after a brief stay in Snowflake.

Sam worked at General Cable before moving into the trucking industry. Con-Way, West-Ex, Fed-Ex and most recently Bulk Transportation supplied the family security and enabled Sam to acquire many great friendships.

While at Fed-Ex, Sam earned his safe driver ring with more than 2 million safe miles. While the boys were growing up, you could find Sam in his coaching shorts on the baseball diamond and the soccer field.

Sam enjoyed working in the garage; there wasn't a project he would turn away. Many man-hours were spent with his sons, friends and family making sandrails, buggies, cars, trucks and memories.

He wanted grandsons, but God had other plans. In 1999 he was blessed with the first of three beautiful granddaughters, Reanna Lynn; 2008 brought Samantha Jo; and 2012 gave him Kilynn Marie.

He was never prouder than when he was teaching one of them to ride a bike, eat potato chips or make a silly face. He said they were all just like him.

We are blessed to have been chosen to be his family, to be his favorites.

A celebration of life gathering will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 3756 Stirrup Drive.

I worked for Sam at General Cable. There were only 2 in management out there that had class and treated others with a mutual respect --- and Sam was one of them. If how he treated people there was an indication of how he lived his personal life --- he is in good hands now and deserves to rest in peace.
