Bulldogs surge again in 3Q

KINGMAN - A night after a big third quarter helped propel Kingman High to victory, the Bulldogs did the same thing Wednesday in a 39-30 win over Willow Canyon in Surprise.

KHS improved to 2-0 on the year by outscoring the Wildcats 14-9 in the third quarter. Shane Metcalf hit a three-pointer at the end of the quarter to tie the game at 26 after trailing 17-12 at halftime.

"That gave us the momentum in the fourth," said KHS coach Ron Anthony of Metcalf's shot. "We came away with a hard-fought win against a good Phoenix school."

Metcalf led KHS with 13 points, including going 6 for 6 from the line to help the Bulldogs secure the nine-point win.

Kingman finds itself in familiar territory. Last year, the team also started the year off 2-0. However, Anthony is hopeful that this year's 2-0 start won't be followed by a four-game losing streak again, but the real test for that will come next week when KHS plays five games in five nights.

"I am proud of the effort the players are making," Anthony said. "The players are understanding that they don't have to score a lot of points for us to win and the players have bought into the program. It feels good to start the season out 2-0."
