Kingman Academy watched a 26-16 halftime lead evaporate in the third quarter Saturday as West Phoenix proved why it is the top team in the Charter Athletic Association.

West Phoenix outscored the Tigers 21-11 in the quarter, thanks in large part to a 16-3 run, and outscored KAHS in the fourth, 23-14, en route to a 60-51 win at Glass Chiropractic Court.

"They went to a zone and we couldn't make shots to get them out of it," said KAHS coach Bryant Morrison.

With Saturday's win, West Phoenix (9-1) retained the top spot while KAHS (8-3) fell to No. 4.

"I'm proud of the boys and they played hard," Morrison said. "It's good to realize that we can be beat. We have to play them again. We are going to work what we need to work on to get them next time."

KAHS started the season 5-0 before going 1-2 in the CAA Holiday Tournament. The Tigers started the second half of the season Friday with a 72-56 win over Peoria Accelerated.

KAHS traveled to NFL-YET on Tuesday and will head to South Ridge Friday before returning home against Desert Heights at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Breyden Potter led the Tigers with 16 points while Austin Tomlinson had eight points. Ike Chinyere and Tarik Skubal each had seven points.

KAHS took a 15-5 lead after the first quarter.

KAHS Girls

Laura Harris had 10 points and Ashlea Tomlinson added seven points to lead the Lady Tigers to a 39-22 win over West Phoenix Saturday.

KAHS took a 20-7 lead at halftime and increased it to 34-14 after the third quarter.

KAHS (6-4) will travel to South Ridge before hosting Desert Heights at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
