KINGMAN - The Kingman High boys track team came away with a victory Wednesday at Bullhead City Mohave after leaving the Lake Havasu Invitational with a second place finish over the weekend.

At the Havasu meet, the Bulldogs had three athletes and two relay teams place first, led by multiple first place finishers Cristian Gutierrez (shot put and discus) and Darian Kamin (300 hurdles, 400 meters).

Kamin's first place in the 400 meters was .37 of a second faster than second-place Miles Nelson of Lake Havasu and 1.29 seconds faster than teammate Lorenzo Martinez, who placed third.

Patrick Webb took first in the 3200 with a time of 10:59.39; besting second place Jonathan VanDeberg of Yuma Gila Ridge by nearly a minute. The 4X400 relay team of Kamin, Steven Bonfield, Preston Hammond and Martinez took first with a time of 3:39.15, while the 4X800 relay team of Kamin, Webb, Hammond and Shaun Wooten took first with a time of 8:40.81.

In all, the Bulldogs had 21 place in the top 10.

On the girls' side, the Lady Bulldogs placed second on Wednesday and finished second at the Havasu Invite on March 2.

Paige Cardiff led KHS by winning both the 800 meters and the 1600 meters at the Havasu Invite. Cardiff took first in the 800 with a time of 2:28.69, five seconds faster than second-place Gila Ridge's Madison Haynes. In the 1600 race, Cardiff took first with a time of 5:33.35 over Haynes, who finished second with a time of 5:40.03.

"We have a very small girls team and many of them are doing three to four events each meet and many of them are running events they don't practice because we are trying to fill in events," said KHS coach Rob York. "It makes it very tough to compete at our highest level at the end of the meet. That being said, they all competed very well."

Paulina Delgado also starred for Kingman High, winning the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and long jump. Amber Tackett placed first in the discus as KHS had 17 finish in the top 10.

Hoffman places fifth to lead LWHS

The Lee Williams High girls team placed 10th with 14 points ahead of Salome. Alexis Hoffman placed fifth in the 100 hurdles and the triple jump to lead the Lady Volunteers. Marli Lauck finished seventh in the 400 meters and Brianna Colbaugh placed ninth in shot put. The 4X100 relay team of Hoffman, Colbaugh, Lauck and McKinzie Samario qualified for the finals and finished fifth with a time of 1:00.83.

On the boys' side, the Volunteers finished 11th with four points. LWHS was led by Giancarlo Narvarte's fifth place finish in the high jump. Braxton Burgess placed 10th in the long jump.

I am Alexis Hoffman's mother, we are very proud of the success she is having in her Freshman season, and we are glad she is having fun. But praise is not due where it has not been earned. Marli Lauck, not Alexis, does the triple jump. These two girls are best friends and push each other to do their best all the time. So Marli also deserves all the praise she earns. Way to go girls!!
