KINGMAN - After a disappointing 4-5 loss to Prescott on March 7, the Kingman High girls tennis team rebounded to win five in a row, including a 7-2 win over Phoenix Sandra Day O'Connor Monday afternoon.

"I have been so proud of the girls and how far they have come," said KHS coach Traci Rosenbach.

Natalie Casson improved to 8-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over O'Connor's Gabi Wallen. Cortney McCans also improved to 8-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Paityn Jaquess.

"We didn't know what to expect from Sandra Day O'Connor since we don't play anyone on the same schedule," Rosenbach said. "The girls came out firing and were ready for anything."

Other singles winners included Gabby Huffer (6-1, 6-4) over Sage Fazzi; Alejandrina Zapata (0-6, 6-4, 10-8) over Maddie Bennett; and Lara Iozzo (6-1, 6-3) over Selia Gartley. Trudy Massie lost her match to Madison Hernandez.

The doubles team of Casson/Huffer beat Wallen/Jaquess 8-0 while McCans/Massie beat Jaquess/Mohrt 8-2. Iozzo/Zapata lost to Bennett/Hernandez 8-3.

The Lady Bulldogs picked up a 5-4 win over Flagstaff on Friday after being down 1-2 heading into singles matches.

"This was one of the most intense matches of the season so far," Rosenbach said.

Casson easily dispatched Flagstaff's Annie Carsey, 6-2, 6-2, while McCans won her match over Maggie Lembke, 6-0, 6-4. Zapata (4-4) lost to Rachael Dingman, 6-0, 6-1, and Iozzo (5-3) fell to Rachel Dingman, 6-0, 6-4.

Huffer (7-1) and Massie (4-1) needed three sets to win their matches and secure the overall win for the Lady Bulldogs.

Huffer got past Cornelia Remeness, 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 while Massie got past Delainey Rowland, 6-7, 6-0, 10-8.

KHS hosted Prescott Valley Bradshaw Mountain on Tuesday and will travel to Flagstaff on Monday. The Lady Bulldogs will hold their final home match of the year April 15 against Flagstaff Coconino.
