KINGMAN - Kingman Academy softball coach Amber Freed was named the 3A Charter Athletic Association softball coach of the year last week.

Freed, who just finished her second year as coach of the Lady Tigers, compiled a 20-1 season as KAHS won its fifth-straight state title.

"While I ultimately received the award, my team and assistant coach Beth White really are more deserving," Freed said. "They are a wonderful group of girls to coach, very coachable and willing to try new things. I am honored to even be considered for coach of the year, and humbled to have received it."

In addition to Freed's honor, the Lady Tigers also landed five players on the 3A CAA All State team, including catcher Ashlea Tomlinson, shortstop Taylor Shaw, third baseman Dakota Parker, outfielder Sarah Machado and pitcher Kylie Tomlinson.

KAHS Black baseball fared just as well by landing seven players on the All State team, led by pitcher Tarik Skubal, who was also named Player of the Year for 3A CAA baseball. Besides Skubal, other Tigers included: catcher Westin McCord, first baseman Jake Miner, shortstop Austin Tomlinson, and outfielders Ty Sherwood and Matt Huggins.

Black finished the season 18-0 and won their third-straight state title with an 8-0 win over EVAC on May 10, a game in which Skubal struck out 16 hitters.

Cody Nazar was also selected to the All State team in co-ed soccer as a fullback.
