Ref hospitalized after colliding with player

Tim Eyer is in stable condition in a Las Vegas hospital after colliding with a player during Kingman Academy's 27-0 win over Peoria Accelerated Saturday at Southside Park.

Eyer was working as a line judge for the football game when the collision occurred with 6:38 left in the third quarter.

Witnesses close to incident said Eyer fell backwards and was knocked unconscious. He was taken away from the field in an ambulance and was transported to Kingman Regional Medical Center. After treatment there, he was airlifted to Las Vegas for more specialized care.

Eyer spoke with the Miner Sunday morning and said that doctors did a CT scan where they found some bleeding on the brain and said he might need surgery if the bleeding doesn't stop.

Eyer said this was the first such incident where he was injured in 17 years of officiating.

"This is the first time I ended up on the short end of the stick," Eyer said.
