Lady Bulldogs stretch streak to 8 in a row

KINGMAN - The Kingman High girls tennis team's winning streak reached eight matches with a pair of 9-0 wins in a doubleheader sweep of Flagstaff Coconino Monday afternoon.

The wins were the latest round of success for the Lady Bulldogs. The doubles pair of Natalie Casson and Gabby Huffer also placed first in the platinum division of the Northwest Tournament this past weekend.

Casson/Huffer beat Surprise Willow Canyon 6-0, Surprise Shadow Ridge 6-0 and Phoenix Sandra Day O'Connor 8-3.

The duo will be the eighth seed when the state singles/doubles tournament begins Friday at the Gene Autry Sports Complex in Mesa.

"I am very proud of the way these two have been playing all season long," said KHS coach Traci Rosenbach. "They have really matured as a doubles team. I know they will do well at state this weekend."

Joining Casson/Huffer at state will be the doubles team of Lara Iozzo and Trudy Massie, along with singles player Cortney McCans.

McCans, along with her mixed doubles partner, Gregory Franklin of the KHS boys team, placed second at this past weekend's tournament. The pair lost to Sandra Day O'Connor 9-7 in the championship match.

The Lady Bulldogs had a make up match Tuesday with Flagstaff and will close out the season today at Prescott.
