Kingman Photo: Got your ears on, good buddy?

Paul Fortune (Radio: KF7GYE) speaks on a Kenwood TS50 HF Radio set up in his truck during the Mohave Amateur Radio Club's Fifth Annual HAM Fest recently at Centennial Park. Kimberly Smith, 16, also an amateur radio user, watches. The MARC is set up for emergency operation during disasters and helps people train and test to use amateur radio. There are three levels of amateur radio: technician, general level and extra class. Once a person reaches extra class, they have full privileges in amateur bandwidth. They have to be general level or above to use high frequency. For more information on the club, call 928-303-9857 or visit

I think the reporter for this story got Amateur Radio mixed up with Citizens Band Radio. Amateur Radio Operators have to pass a test and would not be caught dead saying something like "Got your ears on, good buddy?" That line is a Citizens Band Radio script popularized by Betty Ford with Smokey and the Bandit.
