GVFD recognizes outstanding firefighter
Golden Valley firefighter Roy Whitten has seen many trying and demanding times in his life.

Whitten, a sergeant in the First Force Reconnaissance Unit of the U.S. Marines, was one of the first to respond to the bombing of the USS Cole in October of 2000.

Luca Zanna mum on number of recall signatures collected
The deadline is looming for Golden Valley resident Luca Zanna to turn in the signatures he's collected in his effort to recall District II County Supervisor Tom Sockwell. According to the County Elections Department, Zanna has to turn in more than 3,700 valid signatures by July 13 in order to put the recall on the March ballot.

Snack truck rolls in Golden Valley
A McKee Foods truck carrying Little Debbie snacks overturned in Golden Valley earlier this week.

The accident happened shortly before noon Tuesday on Shinarump Drive near Bacobi Road. Authorities say the 39-year-old Kingman driver had left McKee Foods on Oatman Road and was on his way out of state when the accident occurred.

Ex-GV chamber president pleads not guilty to theft
The Golden Valley Chamber of Commerce has released a statement regarding the alleged theft of funds from the organization by a former Chamber president.

Patricia Randolph pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of theft Monday. Mediation proceedings between the Chamber and Randolph are supposed to begin July 19.

Charge against GV Fire Board chairman dismissed
Misdemeanor assault charges have been dismissed against the chairman of the Golden Valley Fire Board.

Marc Frederick was accused of hitting two firefighters after a heated board meeting last summer.

Chamber to host second census test to hire temp workers
The first test for census workers in January was such a success for the Golden Valley Chamber of Commerce that the U.S. Census Bureau has asked the chamber to host another test in February and become a question and training center.

In an effort to reduce the number of accidents along State Route 68, the Arizona Department of Traffic will reduce the speed limit in front of Black Mountain Elementary School to 45 mph during the school year.
